WASHINGTON -- It has taken a long time, but finally the Justice Department is training its guns on what heretofore was unthinkable, unless you're a career civil libertarian.
For years, the civil libertarians have been warning us that the Intelligence Community posed a threat to democracy as we know it in the United States. Every so often, they would point to some excess of the FBI or the CIA and tell us that the lights were going out in democratic America. Does not The Washington Post run atop its front page the maudlin line, "Democracy Dies in Darkness"?
Well, the darkness descended upon Donald Trump the moment he decided to run for president. The FBI and CIA, in cahoots with Hillary Clinton and those popularizing the infamous "dossier" she financed, threw a blanket of darkness over his campaign.
Late last week, we learned that what had been a Justice Department administrative review has suddenly become much more serious. It has become a criminal inquiry. That means the Justice Department believes there is sufficient evidence that a crime has been committed.
Now, the prosecutor in charge, John Durham, will have the power to subpoena witnesses' testimony and documents. He can convene a grand jury and file criminal charges. My guess is he has already convened a grand jury.
Durham and Attorney General William Barr have been looking into the origins of the Obama administration's spying on Trump. Just how did it begin? And who exactly started it? They are clearly unsettled by the answers they have found so far.
My colleague George Neumayr and I have been studying the Obama administration's spying on Trump for over three years. While most of the mainstream media searched desperately for a smoking gun carried by one of President Trump's people or even by the president himself, we looked elsewhere. We looked at the politicized atmosphere within the FBI and the CIA. We even looked at British intelligence. No one else seemed interested, but we found evidence of criminal misbehavior by former CIA Director John Brennan, former National Intelligence Director James Clapper and former FBI Director James Comey.
On March 23, 2018, we published the following: "While Brennan's recklessness is obviously of no interest to the media, it is provoking increasing concern among government investigators, who are looking at a range of his abuses -- from leaks to perjury to the outsourcing of spying on Trump to foreigners under the guise of 'intelligence-sharing.'"
And we went on: "A member of the intelligence community tells (us) that he was approached by FBI investigators inquiring about Brennan's improprieties at the CIA. He was startled to hear them venting aloud about Brennan's practice of using British intelligence officials to spy on the Trump campaign, including American contractors hired by the British who were working from the 12th floor of a building in Crystal City, Virginia, and an NSA building in San Antonio, Texas. Brennan, they fumed, was using British intelligence agents so that he could deny, if asked, that he had spied on the Trump campaign."
Now if you will remember, President Trump claimed that the Obama administration had bugged Trump Tower. The chattering class raged about this claim for months. But we now know Trump was right. Comey had sitting on his desk warrants -- through the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act -- on Carter Page, Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn that gave him the power to reach into Trump Tower and intercept their communications. Seized with Trump derangement syndrome, the three stooges -- Brennan, Clapper and Comey -- had convinced themselves that Trump, a sui generis American businessman known for his patriotism, was a plant for the Russians.
Psychologists would call such a far-fetched notion a case of projection. It was Brennan, after all, who famously voted for Gus Hall, the Soviet plant who ran for president in the 1970s.
The most perverse irony in all of this is that the American officials who bleated the loudest about "malicious actors interfering in the election" presided over a government that actually did. It was members of the U.S. government who spied upon Trump's campaign and sought to sabotage it through entrapment schemes and criminal leaks. It was Brennan who turned to foreigners for dirt on Trump to throw the election. They failed, but not for lack of trying. Just ask Harry Reid, who has noted Brennan's "ulterior motive" for briefing him on Crossfire Hurricane before Election Day.
In the coming days, we will learn much more about this audacious mischief, first through the report of Inspector General Michael Horowitz detailing FISA abuses and then through Durham's findings, which could result in a raft of indictments. Brace for impact, lefties. It is going to be a bumpy year ahead.
Hitlery is a pawn in the deep state. Listen to some of the nonsense coming from the “witnesses” in the fake hearing on going in secret: “Trump did not follow protocol” Trump had his own agenda different from what we at state were doing. Meanwhile from the CIA: Trump was a pawn of Putin because he tried to make nice with him. IOW, Trump may have been elected but it is US who run this country. If any of these asshats worked in the private sector and they complained say to the press about what the CEO was doing to “their” company in a similar fashion to what these asshats are doing inside the government, they would be UNEMPLOYED. They should have been employed on Jan 21 2017.
Ho Hum, I hope the bell wakes me from my hundred year slumber. We’ve given the other side plenty of time to build up their revetments.
I’ll believe it when ANYONE is arrested, Bueller?
For Whom will the bell toll? Or will it?
In the fwiw department, I’m an optimist.

“...Brennan, Clapper and Comey — had convinced themselves that Trump, a sui generis American businessman known for his patriotism, was a plant for the Russians.”
BS!! Oh, so we’re supposed to think that Brennen, Clapper and Comey didn’t know about the ‘hoax’, and that they sincerely believed that Trump was Putin’s agent? So, all that was happening within the CIA/DOJ/FBI was being conducted by sincere, honorable and uncorrupted actors who truly feared Trump was working with the Russians, and everything they did was out of a strong sense of loyalty to the country? Where’s that bridge that’s for sale?
The public is never told the truth by the Democrat Media, the Democrat Media constantly bleats Trump is a criminal and traitor, and half of adults believe it. They slumber because they are incurious about the facts and readily buy into the Democrat Media Big Lie canards.
Few really understand that the fate of the Republic hangs by a slender thread. After all, there was a World Series to watch and more MNF coming up.
“Few really understand that the fate of the Republic hangs by a slender thread. After all, there was a World Series to watch and more MNF coming up.”
Unfortunately for us, and those like us, we understand and we have a front row seat while watching it all slip away.
One day, Americans will wonder how things got so horribly bad, and how did their beloved caretaker, the government, turn so hostile and oppressive.
My sister and I ponder that all the time regarding our kids. At what point will they wake up and realize it all slipped away.
“At what point will they wake up and realize it all slipped away.”
Liberals are stubborn. Propaganda is powerful. I suspect that it won’t really occur to them that they’ve made a horrible mistake until one day, they are pushing a wheel barrow full of useless dollars to the local government store to buy a single package of toilet paper only to find the shelves empty.
They will laugh and giggle and snicker at the suggestion of such a future, and that is why it will come to pass.
When the changes happen slowly, each generation thinks things have always been the way they are at that point in time. The slow, gradual changes are not noticed.
But sometimes the change accelerates like in Venezuela. Only 15 to 20 years ago it was a prosperous nation with a growing middle class. Then they brought in the socialists to accelerate improvements. They only got the acceleration...straight to hell.
As you say, people will finally wake up when they are pushing those wheelbarrows full of dollars to the stores with empty shelves.
The personal irony for my family is that is exactly what my grandfather was fleeing from in 1927. They got out of the post-WW I Weimar Germany with its social collapse, ascendant communism, and sky-high inflation and came to the United States. Our kids are bringing the same disaster here just 100 years later.
I came at the tail end of the boomer generation. We, boomers, did this. We gave our kids everything, and demanded nothing. And now, we see what kind of person is produced by such upbringing.
It wasn’t just the boomers handling kids with kid gloves. Honestly, it is a subversive leftist / communist program. I know that sounds like the stuff of conspiracy kooks, but this has not happened by accident. We’ve all read about the concerted, long-haul efforts to overthrow the U.S. When the notion of a “worker revolution” was finally recognized as a failure and never going to happen, our enemies began beavering away at our core institutional foundations, particularly education and religion. Everything flows from those.
Once the indictments start, there is going to be a huge landslide.

I may have to start watching CNN and MSNBC for entertainment...
Indeed.
If this activity is not severely punished, it will continue. Long prison sentences are the only thing that will stop it.
I wonder will Brennan/Clapper/Comey threaten to out Obama if Durham pursues their prosecution?
But in the larger picture, what is the long term solution?
I think it involves eliminating the Senior Executive Service as well as government labor unions. These two institutions together assure a Deep State. The country is better served by a spoils system with each new administration.
