North Carolina’s Congressional Gerrymander Is Dead [Barf Alert]

North Carolina’s congressional gerrymander is dead. A state court ruled on Monday that the map, which is skewed in Republicans’ favor, likely violates the North Carolina Constitution and may not be used in the 2020 election. The only question now is how long Republicans hem, haw, and dawdle before conceding defeat and redrawing the illegal districts. Importantly, Republicans will not be permitted to stall past the election; the court made clear that it will delay the 2020 primaries to guarantee a lawful election.

“the court made clear that it will delay the 2020 primaries to guarantee a lawful election.”

Define, “lawful.” And I didn’t realize that was a court’s responsibility.

No sympathy for R’s or D’s when it comes to drawing voting turf. Both parties are lousy as week-old diapers when they draw up these lines.

Districts should be shaped as close as possible to squares or rectangles.

That would be an interesting constitutional amendment, In any event, North Carolina is not really shaped to be drawn up as squares. France did the rationalist squares thing, I think. It didn't improve things.

If the Gerrymandering gets too out of hand the political system itself tends to correct it. Wave elections in either direction tend to make gerrymanders pointless for those cycles.

Dems did the same thing here in IL.
You want fair districts? Or do you want to cheat as long as we’re the only ones who can do it?

Do it by County and split each County in half ?

Roll Dice to pick which half gets what Label ?

Put the Name of each County on a Lottery Ball and use the Machine to pick them just like the Lottery alternating back and forth ?

Use the Numbered Lotto Balls and the County Names. The Names are Even or Odd by the number of letters. Lotto Machine selects the Ball and a Monkey reaches into an Odd/Even Hat and pulls out one piece of paper from the O/E Hat. After the selections are done then the Monkey picks from another Hat with Trade or No Trade to determine if the R’s and D’s swap the County’s or not.

And MI, and PA, ...
More of what Sundance terms Lawfare; a directed effort to remove the people from self-governance and install the Permanent Deep State.

I see no mention in this Slate article of the grotesque shapes of the congressional boundaries in Maryland, California, Illinois, and other Democrat-run states.

Both sides try gerrymandering districts I guess, kind of in the mind of a judge and whether he or she is a dem or repub - but so far only one side has started the new trick of stealing votes by ‘vote harvesting’...

Asheville will now be lumped back in with the rest of the conservative mountain counties and skew the politics back to the left for the entire region.
