Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is this year’s winner of the $1 million Berggruen Prize for her work in philosophy and culture - and the pop-culture action hero intends to pay the entire lump-sum forward.

The 86-year-old was announced as the winner by the Los Angeles-based Berggruen Institute on Wednesday, citing Ginsburg’s pioneering legal work for gender equality and her support for the rule of law.

The institute says Ginsburg will donate all of the money to charity, but an exact recipient of the sum has not yet been confirmed.

Ginsburg has been severing on the Supreme Court since 1993 and is the oldest among the nine appointed justices. She maintains an active public speaking schedule that took her to the San Francisco Bay Area earlier this week.

If one goes back and reads her thesis from way back then one would find out that she should stood for some really bad things right from the beginning. Some of them are still considered Illegal.

Exactly right > IMO.

Any SCOTUS justice spouting that sort of nonsense is not fit or qualified to serve on the SCOTUS.

What clause in the Constitution prescribes that process?

we need an age limit of justices. maybe 75.

don’t tell any one CNN had the best article of course they all want to impeach kavanaugh according to their legal minds, it’s the same process for a USSC justice. The house and then the senate.

From wiki
The Constitution provides that justices “shall hold their offices during good behavior” (unless appointed during a Senate recess). The term “good behavior” is understood to mean justices may serve for the remainder of their lives, unless they are impeached and convicted by Congress, resign, or retire.[97] Only one justice has been impeached by the House of Representatives (Samuel Chase, March 1804), but he was acquitted in the Senate (March 1805).[98] Moves to impeach sitting justices have occurred more recently (for example, William O. Douglas was the subject of hearings twice, in 1953 and again in 1970; and Abe Fortas resigned while hearings were being organized in 1969), but they did not reach a vote in the House. No mechanism exists for removing a justice who is permanently incapacitated by illness or injury, but unable (or unwilling) to resign.[99]

Thanks for the interesting information.

I hadn’t thought of that incapacitation factor. That’s interesting.

In the old days, and incapacitated person would probably die in short order. Today we can keep them alive.

Ruth for instance... (half kidding)

need some type of automatic retirement.

1750-1800
In the days of the American Revolution, life is difficult and death often comes early. Some patriots even welcome early death if it means they can help secure freedom for the people of the newly created United States of America.

The average life expectancy during this era was 36.

That lifespan thing goes according to my perception.

I had a guy challenge that years ago, saying we don’t live much longer today than in previous history.

It was an interesting premise. I didn’t buy into it, but he did provide some data to back it up. Don’t recall it all now.

To me it’s intuitive medicine, diet, so forth. It’s infant mortality rates which are cited for low life averages before 1920.

I think the deal may have centered around the middle to upper class. Perhaps in those sectors things were better than we think they were on the face of it.

Thanks for the links.
