So many of us with conservative leanings have long respected the prose and insight of Peggy Noonan, now a prominent Wall Street Journal columnist, but initially admired for her work as a Reagan speechwriter. But her recent columns show shes come to exemplify the ruling class elitism that simply doesnt grasp the groundswell in the American heart that elected Donald Trump president.
I consider myself to be right in the heart of that American heart. Raised in a lower middle-class home in small town America; father with a high school diploma, and mother with a junior college degree earned in middle age. Taught and embrace the Christian faith, work ethic, and marinated in an atmosphere of love for America. Made it through college and law school; experienced a version of the American dream in terms of achieving a standard of living for my wife and three kids being substantially higher than that of my sister and me growing up.
Well, Peggy, let me help you understand where that backgroundshared in various forms with millions of Americanspositions my worldview.

I worked 7 years in Manhattan. My hometown is a small logging town on the Washington state coast.
I was always interested at how people would move to NYC for work and in a very short time forget where they came from or that their former part of the world even existed.
I suspect this phenomena is as is, if not more pronounced, of the DC elites.
Excellent!
Outstanding rant by Eric Georgatos that does a good job of explaining why a large sector of the American people are cognizant of and deeply resent the arrogance and contempt for the people shown by the elitist establishment, again and again.
The election of Donald Trump was not a fluke, it was our response to that elitist arrogance and contempt and he has delivered against a tidal wave of opposition.
After the last three years of Democrats attempting to overturn the people’s will as expressed in the 2016 election and the fact that all the 2020 Democratic party presidential candidates are unapologetic communists, er, socialists, Trump should and will be reelected in a landslide, very likely bringing a Republican House and senate majority with him as he begins his second term.
Leftist mobs will riot? Let them. The American people decide the election (understanding that massive voter fraud will occur but will not change the re-election of Trump), not marauding fascist mobs.
Oh, yeah. Her speaking voice alone drips with studied self congratulation and snobbery.
As to Ms. Noonan, I do suspect that she's lost in the cloud of elitist vapor of emotionally ionized metaphor that some time ago repossessed her once-honest and sober thoughts.
My response on AT
I dare Peggy to refute this article. She wont because she cant. She believes she is above the peasants and we are too common to understand the complexities of this country. Only her Intellect, social, elitist status (And others like her) can solve the problems in this country. Wake up Peggy because the leftist will turn this country into North Venezuela. Do you care?
I'll warrant there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people like this.
Peggy, George Will, and the rest of the D.C. global elitists need to go do something new than propping up failed policies of both political parties, pretending there are differences. It’s like choosing Ketchup over Catsup and raving on the taste of one over the other. These people offer nothing but old stale ketchup or catsup.
I resented the hell out Chief Justice John Roberts making a joke out of the Supreme Court and the rule of law by upholding Obamacare as a tax when it was expressly not a tax. And all for the purpose of not upsetting whatever Barack Obama wanted to do in fundamentally transforming the country.
Particularly, since it was never argued to be a tax yet, for inexplicable reasons he found that argument...
So many of the POTUS Reagan era staff and administration were pure BS as many are on the Trump Administration.
Peggy Noonan can ESAD for all I care.
Born in Port Angeles, I was a baby when my Dad worked in Forks and Tyee. 1948’ish.
Peggy: Do I side with the common people or with the Washington jet set elite? Do I go to Walmart or fancy cocktail parties? Hmm... hard one! Do I smell like Duck Dynasty or Chanel’s Gabrielle? Do I speak like people in a trailer park or do I throw out some French literary words to bamboozle my priggish peers? This is such a hard question. Where do situate myself? Another cocktail, please!
Yes she is...truly an insufferable snob.
The women personifies the term “smug”.
“She can piss up a rope.”
Bet she can’t... she should pound sand. She appears for a long time to be out of touch with the average, America-loving person. Trump has a unique ability, despite his social class, to connect with anyone, anywhere on the ladder. He isn’t a fake. He talks to the press virtually everyday, directly or indirectly. Unlike his predecessors in the modern era who would send the spokesman and agents out there to get their message out.
“The four little tennis courts at the corner of the woods were a lot of fun.”
That was a great time to grow up in AMERICA. And the police wouldn’t arrest you for it, nor would the club press charges. Harmless fun.
“England in the 12th Century. The elites spoke French and the masses spoke English.”
Well....that was because the French-speaking Normans conquered England in 1066. They later assimilated and acquired English.
It was the Russian aristocracy who spoke French since it was the lingua franca of Europe in the 18th & 19th centuries. The ruling classes of many nations could understand one another. Catherine the Great OTOH was renowned for learning Russian and making it her court language though she herself was German.
Ironic since America’s elites speak the same language as we Deplorables, yet look down on us as irredeemably ignorant and in need of a firm ruling hand. That’s why they want to take the guns.
I’d bet you never forgot your roots, what you learned there, despite the big city. It made you different in the city despite the cosmopolitan life, and you respect and love the people, the life from whence you came.
“Particularly, since it was never argued to be a tax yet, for inexplicable reasons he found that argument...”
While he wasn’t limited to what was argued, his majority opinion will go down in history as a political hack job .... and be remembered with shame like others, which includes such notables as .... Plessy v Ferguson....
