UTOPIA? California Bans Tiny Plastic Shampoo Bottles in Hotels as Homeless Crisis Deepens

The State of California unveiled a set of new rules regulating their hospitality industry this week; banning the use of small, disposable plastic bottles commonly distributed to guests at nationwide chains and hotels.

“California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Wednesday that he signed legislation into law banning hotels from distributing small plastic bottles to guests filled with personal products like shampoo, conditioner or soap,” reports The Hill.

The new rules take effect on January 1, 2023 and apply to hotels with more than 50 rooms or suites. The regulation will apply to all hotels in 2024.

“Thank you Governor @GavinNewsom for signing #ab1162 to ban single use toiletry bottles in the hotel industry! This bill moves us one step closer to phasing out single use plastic in our society. Thank you to California Hotel & Lodging Association for the support,” posted the Assembly member behind the law.

They expect the motels to install dispensers like in restaurant bathrooms.

Before your post I forgot: When H1N1 first spread and there were no flu shots for it, they put up Health Dept. stickers on mirrors in restaurant and retail store restrooms: Wayne County Says Wash Your Hands (with pictures of soapy hands for those who are illiterate----thousands).

Many of the stickers are still there. Most people won't really have dispensers at the ready all day and night (as at motels and hotels) and will have germy, dirty hands. Especially out of towners.

I am a 100% teetotaller myself but drinkers who take plane trips can ask for a little serving of whiskey or wine and be told

“Cup your two hands and hold them toward me. I’ll pour.”

A lot of people in my church collect the unused bottles (and bars of soap) from hotels in their travels during the year. We also collect shoeboxes over the year. Once a year we get together and portion out the soap, etc, along with other items into “care boxes” that we then give to the...homeless.

I’m begging people not to mention we use fresh “_ _ _ _ _” to clean up after sex.

So ... small bottles of shampoo are prohibited in hotels, but regular-sized bottles are prohibited on airplanes.

Shhh... I have a large quantity of small shampoo bottles for sale from many hotel trips, for sale cheap! Wife doesn't discard anything, especially if the room included complimentary stuff. Also lots of plastic straws and bags from other sources.

“Of what use is shampoo, when your hotel has no electricity and the streets are filled with human shit?”

Save it up so that once you escape you can clean yourself up.

I live in California. Every time I go to a fast food place I always steal some plastic straws and I hoard them. Tiny shampoo bottles are now on my hoarding list.

This is outrageous. I’m going to have to go to talk to my personal trainer about this. This won’t go over well with the Soy Boyz in the Hillz.

“...that we then give to the...homeless.”

Who in turn barter them for drugs and booze.

It's not stealing if not posted! We also collect napkins (if available), and those little containers for sauces (we fill them with the free sauce). I told my wife that if we brought a small jar we could fill it by pumping the stuff into the jar (ketchup, bbq sauce, etc.). Excessive use but not theft as long as you buy their food!

Just buy the small plastic tubes instead of the bottles. which can’t be reused.

Recall all you like. But remember that while Gavin Newsom is a complete idiot, and a communist one at that, he didn’t write the law. There is a whole legislature full of Gavin Newsom’s.

I came across it in "The Inferiority Complex of Old Sippy" in "Very Good, Jeeves" by P.G. Wodehouse.

It translates roughly into "Shoemaker, not beyond the shoe". Appelles of Kos was a painter, and a cobbler noticed an error in the way a sandal was painted, and pointed it out to the painter. The painter agreed to correct the error. After that, the cobbler thought he saw other problems with the painting, problems unrelated to footwear. It was then that Appelles told him to stick to shoes.

I include this to apply primarily to a certain Bishop of a big city in Italy, who wants to pontificate on matters outside of his area of expertise, as if he had some authority on these matters.

(That is besides the fact that he has been unwilling to answer clear, important questions on things he has stated that are supposed to be within his competency.)

But the saying is useful to all sorts of situations.

it was always a treat for us little girls when Dad came home from a trip and gifted us with the little shampoos and soaps, especially if the soaps had the hotel name in fancy writing. We thought that was just the cat’s meow. And far, far better than a postcard or stationary (which the boys always wanted anyway).
