Dismissed Ukraine ambassador blames ouster on 'a concerted campaign against me'
The Hill ^ | 10/11/19 | Maggie Miller,Cristina Marcos and Rachel Frazin

The former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine told congressional investigators on Friday that she was removed from her post earlier this year due to "a concerted campaign against me," according to a transcript of her opening statement.

The New York Times and The Washington Post both published the opening statement, which was given to three congressional committees hearing closed-door testimony from the former ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch.

Yovanovitch said that when she was recalled to Washington from Kiev, Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan told her that she had "done nothing wrong and that this was not like other situations where he had recalled ambassadors for cause.”

She said Sullivan told her that President Trump “lost confidence in me and no longer wished me to serve as his ambassador” and cited “a concerted campaign against me," saying "that the department had been under pressure from the president to remove me since the summer of 2018.”

Yovanovitch was removed in May, and her ouster is mentioned in the whistleblower complaint that is at the center of the House impeachment inquiry. The complaint alleges that Trump pressured Ukraine's president to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden over corruption allegations and suggests that the withholding of military aid may have been used as part of the campaign. The complaint also alleges that White House officials were worried about Trump's call and sought to cover it up.

Military aid was eventually delivered to Ukraine, and Trump has denied any wrongdoing on the call.

She was an Obama holdover and a partisan Democrat either of which was reason enough to fire her. She is another Pelosi/Shumer useful idiot.

Ambassadors serve at the pleasure of the President. This Obama appointee should have realized that if Hillary wasn’t elected, she’ probably loose her appointment.

Did she have a "do not prosecute list" or didn't she?

At least, the person at the top serves at the pleasure of the President. I recall that there is a confirmation process for ambassadors, but everyone else is not handled the same way.

If this Ambassador was talking down the President while in her professional or personal life to entities in that country, and also impeding various internal legal processes, then she is a piece of crap who should be fired with prejudice.

Yep: Yovanovitch was nominated to be the ambassador to Ukraine on May 18, 2016, to replace Geoff Pyatt, and was sworn in on August 18, 2016.

I am actually fine with their “Orange Man Bad” approach. Just makes it easier to distinguish us from them!

“a concerted campaign against me,”

That’s right up there with “vast right-wing conspiracy.”

In the future Trump needs to consult with Hillary Clinton and Lynn Rothschild and the editorial board of the New York Times before recalling ambassadors....

;-)

“Today, we see the State Department attacked and hollowed out from within,” Yovanovitch testified. “State Department leadership, with Congress, needs to take action now to defend this great institution, and its thousands of loyal and effective employees.”

The State Department has been a center of Leftist power in the United States for decades, at least back to the 40's

Do not ambassadors to other countries serve at the pleasure of the president? Is not the State Department a cabinet position appointed by the president?

There was no pressure. A simple phone call from Trump to Sec. State. Done.

Trump removed her because the Ukrainian president found her attitude abrasive and unconstructive

In an interview, Mr. Giuliani told The Wall Street Journal that in the lead-up to Ms. Yovanovitch’s removal, he reminded the president of complaints percolating among Trump supporters that she had displayed an anti-Trump bias in private conversations. In Mr. Giuliani’s view, she also had been an obstacle to efforts to push Ukraine to investigate Mr. Biden and his son Hunter.
