Bomb-sniffing dogs sent from the United States to its Middle Eastern ally Jordan are falling ill and dying due to poor treatment and negligence, a federal investigation has found.
A year-long evaluation by inspectors at the State Department found that at least 10 such dogs in Jordan died between 2008 and 2016 from medical problems. Even those who survive are suffering from "unhealthy conditions," such as inadequate kennels, poor sanitation, and overwork.
Photos in the report, published last week, show emaciated dogs with ribs protruding from their sides. Their nails are overgrown, and their ears are home to ticks so engorged they have likely been feasting on the dogs for days. In some facilities, there weren't any dog bowls -- the handlers fed the dogs by simply throwing food on the floor.

Sending dogs to an Islamic country? What could go wrong?
Anyone who gives dogs to Mohammedans is an idiot. And someone who doesn’t like dogs.
That goes for any other animals too.
This is horrible. But it could have been foreseen. The people charged with taking care of the dogs don’t have the same values that we do; and we know that.
Muslims hate dogs.
Dogs are man’s best friend.
Add that up.
h/t Desert Rhino’s tag line
The US gov needs to retrieve them before they all die.
They’re ALL bloody savages!!! Even our so-called “allies”.
Jordan = muzz country. Muzz country = hate dogs.
How horrible.
Besides feeling sorry for the poor dogs, the point is also that they performed a very important function, saving people’s lives by finding explosives.
Those people are insane.
Well, if the dog handlers are female, they would probably be raped as well.
What idiot came up with idea of sending fine, valuable dogs to the muzzie scum?
“Sending dogs to an Islamic country? What could go wrong?”
Yeah, who’s the f’n genius who thought this one up!
**Sickening** to send dogs to those camel jockeys. They hate dogs, see my tagline.
It’s bad enough to use dogs in war at all, and exploit their loyalty and trust for craven ends that mean nothing to them. But it’s unforgivable to give them to dirty moslems to own and care for.
BRING THE DOGS HOME! NOW!
This is one time I wish a big organization like PETA would speak up. STOP sending dogs there!! If the Jordanians are too stupid or too anti-Dog as a culture, then it’s not going to ever work. Government employees often find it very difficult to admit they made a mistake.
It would be like sending a Seeing-Eye Giant RAT to
a legally blind person in America. Most Americans dislike rats, to put it mildly, let alone gigantic Capybara type rodents, they would reject these animals on sight, no matter how highly trained they were said to be.
I’d like to call for volunteers to see how many bomb-sniffing Democrats we can send to the Middle East. :-P
“Besides feeling sorry for the poor dogs, the point is also that they performed a very important function, saving peoples lives by finding explosives.”
Exactly, emotions aside, they squandered an asset. And I bet it was an exceedly expensive asset. I bet it was 25,000 a dog by the time it was delivered to those ingrate throwbacks.
Wasted...
You can’t gift bomb-sniffing dogs to a Muslim country. Whatever PC idiot government stooge dreamed up this program is to blame.
Now, if you gave them bomb-sniffing camels, or bomb-sniffing goats, then they would probably be well-cared for.
Our guys have gone to prison for trying to prevent some of our “allies’” atrocities, thanks to our former fraudulent president.
And it never crosses anyones mind that maybe their reaction to dogs is an indicator that we should not be involved with these backwards throwbacks.
They can only pollute America.
America interacting with these people is like letting your good kid play with thugs. All it can accomplish is tearing down your own kid.
