There was some talk here on FR that Boris Johnson could delay presenting the bill to the Queen or could advise her to veto it. It looks like things don't work that way in the U.K.

I'd like to tell her that I love her a lot...but I've gotta get a belly full of wine.

I was hoping that Boris would convince her not to sign it.

Is there no spine left in the UK?

Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she changes from day to day
I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine

Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeah

OK - so Boris is required, by law, to request an extension from the EU, many of which are on record as being disinclined, such an extension. Boris is not required by law to deliver an extension which is beyond his control.

Seems it takes only one country to veto the extension request to make it null and void. Surely Boris could easily get Italy or Poland to say no. That would mean 31 October is the date of Brexit.

Perhaps her majesty is more than a little concerned that a hard no deal Brexit would trigger Ulster and the Scots into leaving the United Kingdom.

So, Boris is either going to betray Brexit, or he’s going to break the law and set a terrible precedent for the future. What an idiot. I thought he’d have used the Royal Prerogative to block the bill. Guess I’ll be voting Brexit Party when the election finally does happen.

Queen Elizabeth has passed, and someone else is conducting business. That is the rumor going through intelligence circles in the West.

That’d be a first for this monarch. Every piece of evil legislation out of Labour, Red Tories ad nauseam has gotten her assent.

There are some who insist that any refusal of assent out of the monarch would precipitate a constitutional crisis in the UK. Those people turn out to have very leftist leanings, from what I have observed.

There were many here who thought QE would not do this, sadly they were wrong. The remainers win again. I think the only way Brexit happens is to give the them their second vote and when Brexit wins by an even bigger margin they could not stop it. Terrible precedent and risky because of probable cheating but that’s how it looks to me.

When was the last time a monarch refused assent of anything out of Parliament, no matter how evil?

I think it was 1701.

I've seen a few headlines claiming France has already said it would reject any further delay on Brexit.

France threatens to veto further Brexit extension

If the Remainers refused to accept the results of the last vote, why would they obey the results of a second?

Supposedly, the last time a British monarch refused to sign legislation was in 1708.

So her signing is pretty much a formality.

have found predictions on this forum to be wrong , even those speaking authoritatively and with good historical knowledge on U.K. politics

Just shows how fluid and unpredictable Brexit is

If a monarch does not exercise reserve powers (especially when it absolutely needs to be done), and if the Parliament does not respect that monarch’s decision when that happens, those are not reserve powers.
