Lawyers and staff at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton can now use their preferred pronouns on their email signatures and online biographies.
Kilpatrick announced the new initiative via a firmwide email last week, making it one of a handful of large firms nationally to encourage its people to add the gender pronoun that they use, such as “he/him/his,” “she/her/hers,” or “they/them/theirs,” to their communications.
“Automatic assumptions about gender pronouns are an unwelcome life challenge for some,” the firm’s email said, and making one’s preferred pronouns known is a way for Kilpatrick to “create a more inclusive environment and build a culture where we do not make assumptions or pass judgment on each other.”
Partner Yendelela Neely Holston, Kilpatrick’s first-ever diversity and inclusion officer, said one of the firm’s LGBTQ lawyers suggested the pronoun option to her earlier in the year.

Only a fellow insane client would want to receive emails from a lawyer who is clearly a man but identifies himself as she/her, or from any lawyer who identifies as they/their.

Agreed. I might turn around and leave their office, if I learned my attorneys were so transfixed about this nonsense. I would wonder about their legal abilities, reasoning abilities, ability to cut thru crap and represent the client properly.

I speak English. Don’t attempt to change the way I speak. A language has pronouns and words for entire classes of people. It does not have an individual word for each individual. If that’s what you want, you use a “Name.”
I heard on Rush people introducing themselves by name follwed up by their preferred pronouns.
“Hi, I’m John Smith, he/him.” All said very casually as if it were perfectly normal. Coming to your town soon!
Do they honestly believe ordinary, clear thinking people would use a Law Firm where the Lawyers can’t figure out if they are Male or Female???
