"There is space for us to use sanctions to move a country to do what we want it to do but these are not the kind of sanctions we impose on countries we do not like, right, countries we don't like -- its leaders, we don't like its values or we don't think they are our values so we put crippling sanctions on them -- that does not change any behavior in that country," Omar said at the conference.
I guess sanction are bad except when it is aimed at Israel. That is the reason BDSers are anti-Semites.
She is the enemy within.
I agree with her. I blame the Muslims too.
Evil individual she is.
AOC is insufferable.
And it’s accelerating.
So ... when maduro or Chavez nationalizes assets of U.S. companies, we are supposed to get on our knees, bend our heads back, pant lightly, and say “Thank you sir, may I have another?”
And you have liberals ready to jump both feet to vote for this btch just because she is against Trump. This country has gone mad and our law enforcement is obviously corrupt that they have nothing on her. Compare how she is treated to the way Obama doxed his political enemies to the DOJ, IRS or FEC.
She mistakes me for someone who gives a shit.
What is BDS?
BDS = Boycott, Divest, and Sanction.
it is anti-Israel movement
She is 100% correct, for once. Increasing the suffering in the short term IS THE ENTIRE POINT. Rather than sending in US troops, we use sanctions and strategies to make things worse, so that the citizenry will rise up, through the ballot box or otherwise, and do the job that we generally do not want our military to do.
Or would you like to change your stance and support a US military option instead, Rep Omar? We are appropriately reticent to do it, but if there is no better option, we are ready and willing and more than able.
No? Of course, not... your preference is more Leftist tyrants ruling and entrenching the suffering long term. Thankfully, we have a leader who does not agree with global suffering under Leftist tyranny.
No, people need to read carefully what she said. She says that the Regimes are responsible for the people suffering. She is saying that our sanctions are accelerating it, or making it worse.
She just doesn’t get it. She got the first part right, the Regimes are responsible for the suffering. She didn’t get the part that the PEOPLE of those countries CHOOSE to put these Regimes in power. Now, the PEOPLE are suffering because of the choices. The United States has definitely (I agree with her here) accelerated the suffering to get the PEOPLE to change Regimes. People don’t change Regimes if they are not suffering and it’s not getting worse.
I think she doesn’t understand the concept of Non-US military involvement to convince a Rogue Regime, or people that have put a Rogue Regime in place, that it is time to change.
Thanks.
I thought Omar was a tent maker...
This other Omar is the wurst.
“So if we do want to be a helpful ally to people who are suffering around the world then we cannot continue to cause an acceleration in their suffering.”
One interesting side effect of the AOC+3 approach is that as long as they are willing to cooperate, anything that one says can be attached to the others, as they are mutually supportive. Omar’s anti-Jewish screeds might be overlooked in Minnesota, but will not be taken to by some of the normally leftist Jews (and friends/family of Jews) in Cortez’ NY district.
Why doesn’t she take a trip to Somalia and vacation there for a week or two?
When she said, “Us”, I thought she meant Jew-hating Marxists.
So, Venezuela nationalized all American assets which then failed due to their incompetency an it’s all our fault?
