Judge Furman has no such legal authority to issue that order.
His court is in contempt of the law.

They now routinely rule from the bench and trample on the prerogatives and authority of the executive branch — which incidentally was put in place by the American people.

The courts have slowly but surely demolished the foundational concept of co-equal branches that underlies our form of government.

Furman is a sneering Leftist who should be ignored.

Print the damn census with the question.

If they want to fight out whether the answers can be used or not for apportionment, that can happen after the fact. In the meantime, it’s a priori restraint to keep the question off. It’s been there for decades prior, there’s no harm that comes from asking it.

The only question is what will be the use of it.

Which law enables a judge to _rule_ on such executive action? Why does anyone let judiciary act outside of their authority. The adjudicate law, not tell the other branches what they’re allowed to do. Show me the law.
