Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday urged Democrats and Republicans to tone down their rhetoric but defended President Trump from charges of racism after he tweeted over the weekend that minority Democratic lawmakers should "go back" to where they came from.
"The president is not a racist," McConnell declared, after reporters pressed him hard on whether Trump's tweets were racist or whether the GOP leader himself would ever use such language.
Instead McConnell said both sides were guilty of "overheated" rhetoric.
I think the tone of all of this is not good for the country but its coming from all different ideological points of view. To single out any segment of this I think is a mistake, he said, defending Trump from recent criticism from Democrats.
In his prepared remarks, McConnell said: "I think theres a consensus that political rhetoric has really gotten way, way overheated all across the political spectrum," he said.

President Trump is speaking the only language the junkyard dogs of the Democrat Party understand.
Mush mouth McConnell should shut up. They twisted what Pres. Trump said and he didn’t say anything we aren’t all saying in fly over country. In fact people are saying way worse about these Four Idiots of the Apocalypse than POTUS would ever say.
“the favor of media companies”
Bunch of bought and paid for deep state propagandists.
Bush League Republicans MUST become extinct before the Republic does.
Angry enough to primary him out of office?
That’s what needs to happen to EVERY Bush League Republican that have REFUSED to side with the citizens and the rule of law.
As soon as the Dems and their allies stand down on their routine libel and slander, I’ll support our side toning it down as well.
Until then, those lying hypocrite commie bastards can rot in Hell.
Mitch McConnell fights back with politeness and good manners.
And caving and conformity and surrender and nothingness.
These Republican leaders are ...
... nothing. Lol.
Republican leaders are such non leaders.
Yep - keep pointing out that the President doesn’t call women/races/whatever out, he calls out people with bad ideas and intentions...
