University of New Mexico considers building border fence around campus to keep criminals out JENNIFER KABBANY - FIX EDITOR JUNE 3, 2019
The University of New Mexico is considering whether to build a large border wall around its perimeter to protect the campus community from criminal activity.
The proposed 10-foot-tall, wrought-iron fence with sharp points at the top would be used as a security barrier between New Mexicos largest public university and the rest of the city, reports the Albuquerque Journal.
The university has faced everything from homeless people on campus to drug users locking themselves in the bathroom stalls to get high to hundreds of car thefts and even rapes the newspaper reported.
Consultants paid to help drum up ideas on how to keep the campus safe had suggested the 13,000 feet of fencing, but a campus spokesman told the Journal that there are no imminent decisions about perimeter security and any strategy involves multiple things to consider before moving forward.
According to the universitys most recent report on criminal activity on campus, in 2017 there were 18 rapes, 12 cases of fondling, seven robberies, 15 aggravated assaults, 211 motor vehicle thefts, four arson cases, 39 burglaries, 16 liquor law arrests, eight drug arrests, and one illegal weapons arrest.
Unlike many large state universities, UNM is in the urban center of Albuquerque, where crime, notably car theft, and violence are ongoing concerns. The campus southern border is along Central Avenue, a high-crime corridor with a large number of panhandlers and transients, the Journal reports, adding that others simply visit campus to jog or enjoy various theater performances.
Some walls are more equal than others.
I’m not familiar with that university’s on-campus politcs. Will they favor illegal immigration while protected with their own private wall? Or, will the students prance around declaring, “Tear this wall down?”
Public U right? Plenty of money around.
It’s not the money I was asking about, it’s the cognitive dissonance that will be created by this sort of sane campus self-defense.
Interesting. Hard to say. There have been several muggings, armed robberies , and a car jacking on campus.
Some animals are more equal than others.
NPC liberals in support of this: “Trump’s wall is very lame, yet our wall is not the same!”
Sounds pretty Racist to me, Why does New Mexico have so much Hate for their fellow man?
But walls don’t work.
/s
Professors believe in walls with pointy objects to keep out the riff raff out of their space but believe that the border walls that supposed to keep out the ruff raff out of America’s space is ‘racist’
BTW. Free College is important to keep ‘Big Education” afloat in grants to keep professors safe from the average taxpayer.
So stop grumbling and pay your taxes.. it’s important!
Oh the irony....
Central Ave is a cesspool. The city and state leadership has allowed drugs and prostitution to thrive. They are tolerant of criminals because that’s who keeps these libtards in office.
WALLS
We need to protest it!!!
Here are some statistics (from 2018) about New Mexico:
1. 3rd highest rate of property crime in the US
2. 4th highest rate of violent crimes in the US.
3. 4th highest rate of drug deaths in the US.
4. Highest rate of stolen vehicles in the US.
5. 50% increase in homicides from 2017.
6. 25% of children in NM live below the poverty line.
Not a statistic but a fact: The place is run by bleeding-heart, liberal democRATS.
This last fact explains the other statistics.
LOL.
Ouch!, too!
These are just little hidden taxes on people for not having control of our border.
Every major university campus tends to be around total sh*thole and libtarded ‘hoods.
Has the uber lefty governette moved to stop the wall/fence yet? After all, criminals have rights too. Or something.
