Impeachment dam breaking as Pelosi deputies tip hand: ‘We’ve already begun’

While House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is urging caution and patience in response to those in her party clamoring for impeachment proceedings against President Trump, her top deputies are signaling it’s only a matter of time before they begin.

South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, the third-highest-ranking Democrat in the House, said in an interview Sunday that he believes impeachment proceedings ultimately will be launched against Trump at some point in the future. He suggested Democrats are already laying the groundwork in Congress.

“I think we’ve already begun,” Clyburn said on CNN's "State of the Union." “We’ve got all of these committees doing their work, we’re having hearings.”

The House Dems have seen the polling #s that show significant support for impeachment - upwards of 41% & much higher among Dem voters.

Trump attracted 9% of black votes and the forecast is for double that in the next election.

The Dems are in real trouble and impeachment is the strongest election issue they have, not even abortion will draw the kind of attention they need, and one directed only at Trump.

Of course it is a fool’s parade and very risky for them. If it doesn’t work, they lose the Presidency and voter backlash loses them the House also.

So the Dems are in an all or nothing gamble for their future.

The Dems should look at what CNN and MSNBC did to their ad revenues by failing to prove the Mueller hoax.

However, during the trial, and this is what no one is thinking about right now, the President’s attorneys will have the right to subpoena and question ANYONE THAT THEY WANT.”

Are you sure that is correct as a matter of procedure?

I’m not denying that is the case, just asking the question.

It seems there have been so few trials in the SEnate that the rules might not be set in stone.

I know Rehnquist wrote a book about it....which was sort of cool in that he became sort of an expert, then presided over Clinton’s trial.

But beyond that, I have no knowledge only questions :)

Have you by chance read Rehnquist’s book? Perhaps it illuminates this issue?

Let them.

Some of the disengaged brought Trump to victory in 2016... They impeach you are going to see a slaughter at the ballot box for Dems....

My guess is they will stall this out and simply try to use this to gain some senate seats (IE we can’t because the senate wont convict... so we need you to elect us in the Senate)....

What are the impeachable offences committed by President Trump, Nancy? What are his high crimes and misdemeanors? Now that the Mueller investigation is over, the Dems and their media lackeys have switched to squawking “impeachment, impeachment” every day, but what are Trump’s high crimes?

Go for it, dems.

If you back off impeachment now, you have the balls of a gnat.

Not that it’ll end well for you, because it won’t... but you have a rabid, frothy-mouthed, maggot-infested base to satisfy and they’re demanding it.

Democrats have learned that there is no cost to talking-up impeachment. We all know there is no “impeachment” there. Even Mueller’s bias and propoganda couldn’t create a single suspicious event, and certainly, there was ZERO evidence.

It is a string of slogans and empty 10-second sound-bites, trying to excite their base, and hoping some vague negative impressions stick in the minds of low-info voters.

BTW, as soon as the House proceedings formalize to impeachment hearings, and they will, trust Nadler on that, there will be a lawsuit.

Since there are no “high crimes and misdemeanors” the Supreme Court could easily rule that the House Dems are pursuing an unconstitutional effort.

IMO they will wait until it’s closer to election time in
2020 and Trump is the GOP nominee for a 2nd term.

The funny thing, is that it is a mistake for some, but not for others.

Very true.

But this becomes sort of a continuation of the Democrats' problem in 2016 with the Electoral College:

Hillary may have won the popular vote, but that doesn't matter. You need to win enough EC votes across the country to actually be the winner. They didn't focus on the Big Picture.

With impeachment, as you say, some Democrats in CA and MA and other places will be rock stars to their base. They will win in 2020 by huge margins. But for an individual office, a win is a win and the size of the win doesn't matter. But all across the country, how will the House and Senate be impacted after impeachment fails? I think the Democrats will, on the whole, be decimated. But I suspect the ones in CA and MA don't care about that. They aren't good at focusing on the Big Picture.

THey either will or they won’t.

Binary option.

There is absolutely no point in continuing to post, comment, wail, and gnash teeth over it. People on anonymous conservative websites are powerless to stop the democrats from doing whatever they’re going to do. Nor does anyone know how impeachment will affect the President.

So just shut up about it.

Or if it makes you feel better, carry on. Cluttering up this forum is cheaper than a therapist.
