IRVINGTON, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police are investigating after a teenager was fatally shot in New Jersey Wednesday afternoon.

The victim's backpack sat in the middle of street after the shooting, which happened just before 3 p.m. on Clinton Avenue in Irvington.

Police responded and rushed the victim to University Hospital in Newark where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Marquise Jenkins, a student at Irvington High School.

The school is located nearby, and it is possible the victim was on his way home at the time.

There was a heavy police presence in the area.

“Unless it is the relative of a FReeper, is this really news?”

Precisely what I was thinking.

It is time the Right talk more about this.

THEY are saying we need to "have a conversation about gun control."

Period.

End of story.

Own it.

Women are angry. Burb women are very angry. Angry burb women want no ugly black guns. Guns are bad. Orange man is bad. Bad. Bad. This isn't 1984 and we don't need guns. Fear the burb women. Fear Womyn's Studies majors the most.

That’s a composite of all women with degrees that end in “Studies.” Every one of them hates Trump, the Constitution, men, live babies, guns and freedom.

At least the police there aren’t allowed to stop and question black folks any more. Don’t want to inconvenience the thugs.

What kind of school lets teens out of classes BEFORE 3pm?

From grades 1-12, my school day never ended that early.

Malcolm X and MLK in Dallas...

Formerly Oakland and Grand.

Oakland Cemetery is at that intersection. Buried there are many of the movers and shakers of Dallas from the 1800s-1900s.

I have gr-grands and others in my ancestry buried there. Went with sister and daughter to clean the graves in 2002. The caretaker was openly carrying his sidearm for protection. He said it was dangerous in broad daylight when he was mowing, clearing brush, etc.

Malcolm X, across the street was full of street walkers and drug dealers and users, as well as drunks...at 10am.

Appears the area has gone even further down hill, with a mosque being built there.

Was born in East Orange and spent my first 7 years on Ellis Ave in Irvington. My parents got out just before the place went down the toilet. Very sad since it once was a nice town.

I don’t know if it has been a further decline - the Black Muslims may have cleaned up some of the street crime in the immediate vicinity. But it is an area that I avoid.

You may be aware - the “urban planners” are pushing to rip out the connection from US75 - Central Expressway to I45 to force all the through traffic to drive through the ‘hood. Ought to be good for the carjacking businesses.
