The February 11 rally will take place .... less than 1000 feet from the border fence in El Paso

“As the President continues his fight to secure our border, there’s no better place to demonstrate that walls work than in El Paso,” campaign Chief Operating Officer Michael Glassner said in a statement.

The president referred to El Paso on Tuesday during his State of the Union address.

“The border city of El Paso, Texas, used to have extremely high rates of violent crime — one of the highest in the country and considered one of our nation’s most dangerous cities,” he said. “Now, with a powerful barrier in place, El Paso is one of our safest cities.”

Right around the deadline for funding the government, correct? This is genius, he knows he has the public’s support. Uni-party be damned.

This is great and will drive the Democrats nuts. However, I hope that security has been carefully thought out. Do the cartels and other enemies have weapons with the range to fire from the Mexican side of the border and reach the venue?

I just spent two years in El Paso. The numbers show that the violent crime rate is a little higher than the national average, but given what’s south of there, it’s practically idyllic by comparison.

The vast majority of the border is wide open. There was a piece of very tall wall going up right off of I-10 where it skirts the border, but that’s about it. The lack of drug war bleedover from Juarez is more likely due to the fact that numerous drug lords’ mistresses’ and children live in El Paso. It’s something of a “safe zone” from cartel violence as a result.

I live in Texas but it would be closer for me to go to a rally in St Louis than El Paso Texas is a big state.

I was watching Live PD (don't laugh) and one night there was some action where the El Paso county boys had to help Border Patrol. The illegals had snuck in, and everyone and their dog was chasing them.

I saw that a very good place to hide were the cane fields by the border. Any idea why those haven't been chopped down?

They did find the illegals, after searching through the cane fields.

Good to see Trump getting into campaign mode — because the Democrats never left it. Effectively communicating the issues, as he did in his SOTU, will earn him another term, not tweeting over Stormy or some obscure and irrelevant issue raised by Mueller.

In 2015 there were 65 countries either completeing walls or under construction, according to Quebec University expert Elisabeth Vallet.......When the Berlin Wall was torn down a quarter-century ago, there were 16 border fences around the world. So what changed?.....countries are trying to protect themselves from the risk of terrorism. Everywhere but here!

"There are bullet holes on the city hall building in El Paso."

Wow, that's bad enough, but I was thinking more like a cartel manpad or other rocket type device.
