House Democrats float new shutdown offer with more ’21st century’ border security

WASHINGTON — House Democrats are putting forward a new proposal to end the government shutdown, aiming to lure President Donald Trump away from his demand for a border wall by offering billions of new dollars for other border security measures.

The offer is a possible path toward a compromise even though it does not have the money the president wants for building the wall between the U.S and Mexico.

The Democratic proposal is expected to go beyond the $1.6 billion the White House initially requested from Congress for border security, before Trump demanded $5.7 billion for his long-promised wall. The proposal is still being drafted.

21st Century Wall? Isn't that what we have now? Perhaps they can try it out first in miniature around Nancy's House.

More BS from the ‘rats. A drone is only as good as its programmer - what if the programmers are deep state? Obviously drones will not work - they could be a tool along with the wall but that is it.

A fresh and refreshing Dem proposal: The same Dem inspired stuff tried years ago that stopped no one.

Drones are consistent)y shot down by smugglers. Drones are used to watch BP and to transport drugs and even people.

“A drone is only as good as its programmer - what if the programmers are deep state? Obviously drones will not work - they could be a tool along with the wall but that is it.”

A wall is permanent, therefore cheaper. A one time cost, other than maintenance.

Anything else, the next president can pull the funding

The devil is in the details. We all know that walls can be climbed over or tunneled under, and aince $5.7B won’t complete the border it will also drive traffic to other areas. A serious beef-up in border security to include multiple forms of electronic monitoring, fencing/walls near population centers, and the deployment of more rapid response security forces might be a good compromise. You could even include more “doors” and detention centers for those willing to formally request asylum (instead of trying to sneak in), along with the staff to process them and the tools to return those who are not accepted. Drones alone won’t do it. But a combination of tactics and techniques to push traffic into areas where it can be interdicted may be fair if it’s the right combination. Trump always said it won’t be 100% wall - he said some wall, some electronic, some manned areas.

It’s much more than that problem, the physical barrier is essential. The best electronic surveillance imaginable still cannot physically stop the illegals from crossing the border, and once they are in our country the legal morass and fiscal expense they will cause is outrageous.

We must have The Wall to keep illegals from crossing into our country.

The fact it took 33 days to force the Democrats to take up border security shows Trump has won the shutdown fight.

Democrats new offer reminds me of the outraged woman who accepted a rich man’s proposal to have sex with her for a millon dollars who was miffed when he lowered the boom.

We’re not arguing when to do it honey; its question of price; that’s already been established.

Democrats have now accepted Trump’s terms; the only question left is how much they will pay to end the shutdown.

They could have avoided all the drama by giving in to Trump over a month ago.

The DemocRATS and their media are ignoring the 2nd wave of "Migrants" and it's probable effects on our already overloaded system. They don't care about dead ranchers at the border, nor do they care about Islamic (possibly terrorist) prayer rugs left at the border, nor rape by the coyotees of the Migrant women.

They want our system overloaded by these INVADERS ("Migrants") they want to overthrow the U.S. of A and give us Socialism for ALL, or their dream - Communism for ALL.

It's Obvious now.

People who advocate technological solutions say we have too much illegal immigration. This assumes that there is a different, lower, level of illegal immigration that is not too much.

People who advocate for a wall seek to eliminate all illegal immigration. This assumes that the best number for illegal immigration is zero.

The problem with the technological approach is that the “correct number” can be adjusted up or down to suit the politics of the day. The good thing about a wall is that it cannot be adjusted. It always reduces illegal immigration and all improvements drive the number down toward the desired number of zero.

If we eliminate illegal immigration, we can meter immigration into the country by legal means. This is the proper way to do things. That way, everybody who is here has a right to be here, no worker can be exploited because he does not have legal status, and it reduces the power of government because nobody is dependent of the forbearance of the authorities.

Technological solutions are evil. They perpetuate the evil system that results in exploited illegal labor, which is akin to modern slavery.

No to just drones. I want something, an edifice, that makes it clear that we are trying to protect our people now and after DJT leaves office. Walls give comfort and Security, that is why Nancy Pelosi, Obama, and the other democrats have walls around their properties. My fellow Americans deserve that security, that attempt at security.

Of course its bait and switch. Its a complete nom-starter.

That said, I find it interesting they’re floating this trial balloon.

Democrats are recognizing the President has the whip hand on the border wall and the longer the shutdown drags on, the worse it will get for them.

They’re trying to get themselves out of their hole while the President is in the catbird seat.

He just took away their leverage over the SOTU. Its dawning on them he can afford to wait as long as he wants. Its only a speech after all.

And the fact of the matter is this isn’t exactly a hill for them to die on. Nice to see to begin talking about it though.

We’re still far from a deal. When you’re serious about doing one, kindly do let us know.

The Dems want a porous border, so therefore they want something that doesn’t work

Their polling must be bad if they’re launching a trial balloon.

If they had public opinion in their corner, they would just keep saying no.
