The Department of Homeland Security has no intention of paying $50,000 to each of the 6,000 migrants who traveled in caravans from Central America to Tijuana, a spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon.
"Secretary [Kirstjen] Nielsen has made clear that being a member of a caravan does not give them special rights for entry into this country and now it looks like some of these migrants understand that the Trump administration’s commitment to enforcing the rule of law, and their own likely lack of a legitimate claim of asylum, means they should return home," DHS spokeswoman Katie Waldman said in a statement.

process way down (supposedly against
US immigration law), that they would
have standing for a massive suit. They
offered up the 50K as a settlement.

The asylum process has always been extremely slow so it’s not slowed down.
Furthermore, you are supposed to apply for asylum from your home country. Just go into the nearest US Consulate and apply. You will be advised when to show up.
You don’t think that people who emigrate to the USA all walk here hopefully. And there are quotas that must be met. I met a woman who has applied to move here from B Britain. She has been waiting for years!!!
BTW, my favorite hotel in Mexico City is just one block from the US Consulate. The line to get in each day circles the building 3 times around.

Instead of hundreds swamping the
system all at once, only a hundred
or so are now processed daily.
Detention on our side is near full
capacity. Catch and release has
ended, and those caught are placed
in detention until their cases a heard.
So, in effect, for those jumping across,
the process has slowed down. The process
for those who try and do things the right
way, is slow. I’ve a few friends who
immigrated legally. The average wait time
for them was 6-7 years.
