Its hard to turn away from the pictures, data, satellites, buoys, models, internet, twitter, video, chasers, and all the other contemporaneous information that is available through the internet. It is raw and immediate. It is unfiltered and sometimes takes a while to verify or evaluate.
All that being said, earthquakes, disasters, hurricanes, forest fires, dam failures, tornadoes, and volcanoes are now available without having to rely upon a snot-nose from journalism school that can’t be bothered to have any commonsense or background in any field but video games.
