Show How You Feel, Kavanaugh Was Told, and a Nomination Was Saved
New York Times ^ | October 6, 2018 | Peter Baker and Nicholas Fandos

WASHINGTON — Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh sat in the anteroom of Room 216 in the Hart Senate Office Building, a sterile, living-room-like space with a couch and a couple of armchairs and a large television on the wall. His chances of joining the Supreme Court seemed to be vanishing. “Disaster,” read the text message from one Republican.

Christine Blasey Ford had just finished testifying that he had tried to force himself on her as a teenager, and nearly everyone in both camps found her credible, sincere and sympathetic. President Trump called Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, and they agreed she was impressive. “We’re only at halftime,” Mr. McConnell said, trying to be reassuring.

Mr. Trump thought it was time to bring in the F.B.I. to investigate, as many opponents of Judge Kavanaugh had urged, but when he called the Hart Building, Donald F. McGahn II, his White House counsel, refused to take the call. Instead, Mr. McGahn cleared the room and sat down with Judge Kavanaugh and his wife, Ashley Kavanaugh. The only way to save his nomination, Mr. McGahn said, was to show the senators how he really felt, to channel his outrage and indignation at the charges he had denied.

Judge Kavanaugh did not need convincing. He was brimming with rage and resentment, so when he went before the Senate Judiciary Committee, he did not hold back. His fire-and-fury performance — “you have replaced ‘advice and consent’ with search and destroy” — suddenly turned the tables. While Democrats thought he went too far, demoralized Republicans were emboldened again. In their war room, White House aides watching on television cheered and pumped their fists.

I watched her entire testimony, lies from beginning to end.
1: First lie was the little girl squeaky cartoon voice, bullshit from beginning to end.
2: Second lie was refusing to make eye contact during her entire testimony.
3: Third lie was, “I am just so weak and traumatized I just can’t remember any of the details”; pure crap, anybody that was so frightened and traumatized by such an act would remember it like it happened 5 minutes ago.
4: The Hillary defense of “ my mind is JELLO when it comes to memory and details” is nothing more than a steaming pile of dung.
Nothing happened to her at that party, even if such a party actually took place, which I doubt.
This was a Dem setup that was supposed to make Kavanaugh, the Republicans, and the President withdraw from the process and withdraw the nomination.
IT DIDN’T WORK THIS TIME.
Yes; this practice of personal destruction has worked for the COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS in the past, what the Dems forgot in this case is that most Americans do have functional minds and MEMORIES.
WE HAVE SEEN THIS EXACT SAME CRAP BEFORE.

I think that was what was so great about Trump’s statement about Ford’s memory, or lack thereof. He gave the country permission to say she was NOT credible, to walk away from all the PC crap and simply say, “I don’t believe her.”

You can feel however you like about it, I may feel however I like about it, but that doesn’t change how others do, and if you fail to recognize the fact, whether you like it or not, or I like it or not, that she came across as a sympathetic person to many people, (and not just rabid leftists) then you are in a world of self delusion.

There are plenty of people to go after in this mess, people who clearly violated senate rules and federal laws... If you think she should be the top priority you are politically tone deaf. Her lawyers clearly violated a multitude of legal requirements.. Feinstein violated senate procedures and someone leaked the letter violating the law. And I am sure there are many others to go after.. but if you think she should be the top person to go after, then you might as well throw the house back to the Dems, because as angry as the public is angry about this fiasco and the Dems behavior, they will throw that anger right at the republicans if they view revenge against what is viewed as just a much a victim as Kavanaugh is in this whole thing...

Whether you agree or not.

She wasn’t credible at all. From her first sentence it was apparent she was lying her ass off.

I know that the President, Senators, etc., had to say favorable and sympathetic things about her for the sake of politics, and not to jeopardize the vote. Now that Kavanaugh is confirmed and sworn in, they’re free to cut the crap and tell it like it is.

Extensive coaching can only teach so much.

Her lies were the bedrock of her final performance.

There are “good” leaks and there are “bad” leaks.

This is a good one!

Don’t know if McGahn is the leaker or not. Leaker WILL be found, eventually, and dealt with!

The truth about this whole “event” will come out, and the Demonrats are not gonna like the truth being “outed.”

Not quite. The Repubs don’t want to upset the female voter ahead of the midterm elections.

How many of our good, FR ladies reading this were touched; in their teens; in a way that would eliminate the toucher from EVER being on the Supreme court?

How many are STILL 'traumatized' by it??

Trump himself publicly said she was credible - only at the rally later in the week did he change his mind, when he “mocked” her - although he wasn’t mocking. I did not understand why Trump said she was credible since she could not remember anything - but everyone - said she was credible. I think everyone was just trying to careful and did not want to come across as insensitive to women.

Yes, and no.

While there is no excuse for rape ever, there’s also personal responsibility in where you go and the situations you put yourself in.

You can’t play with fire and expect to never get burned.

I think you’re right.

If he had said she wasn’t credible, the left would have eviscerated him.

He COULDN’T say she wasn’t credible.

I am not female so I can’t speak for the ladies, but I do remember an incident from when I was 7 years old at Huntington Beach, California.
It was July (at 7 I didn’t pay attention to the exact date), first 2 weeks of July as a matter of fact (we were just out of school).
I was under the pier alone (early 50’s who would of thought), I got my crotch grabbed by a queer in about his early to mid 20’s.
Took off like a rocket to find my Father and told him IMMEDIATELY what happened, we went back to find the FAG but he had already disappeared.
Probably a good thing, my Father would have beat him to death.
I remember that incident like it was yesterday, if the cops showed me a picture lineup (taken back then) of guys today I could pick the pervert out immediately.
If I had been a high schooler I would have broken both his arms and legs before I stomped him to death.
