When Brice Glattfelder was about 3 years old, his mother was warned that he might never tie his own shoes.
He was 10 when he learned despite his autism to tie his shoes, but he did learn. Educating and life-skills training come slowly to Brice, whose avid interests include football, garbage cans and cement trucks.
For his last birthday, his 16th, his mother Katie said, All he wanted was a bag of cement, and thats what he got.
There is something else that hes wanted.
Months ago, Brice, whos now 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, told Katie he knew it probably couldnt happen for somebody like him, but he wanted to go out for his schools football team.
Katie encouraged him to go for it. Brice, whos grown up with little confidence and no friends, went out for Montgomery Highs Vikings.
Coach Vertis Patton brought him onto the junior varsity team. Amid the first game Friday, against Petaluma High, Brice beamed joy as he took the field as a defensive lineman.
Up in the stands, his mother bubbled over with pride.
And gratitude. Katie Glattfelder said its astounding how kind and encouraging everybody is being to Brice.
Suddenly, in his free time, Brice cant get enough of kicking footballs off a tee. Now that hes on the team hes focused on a new goal: to become the Vikings punter.

Awesome- nice to see folks being kind in such an angry world as of late-
There is some statistical evidence which demonstrates that chances of autism increase if the mother has a child at an older age.. Age of father may have something to do with it also. Consider how many women put off birth to a later age in usa since 1970’s.....
so lemme get this straight, I’m a “vaccine freak loser” because i said it was nice that for a change, people are being nice to a kid with autism/ Really? Whatever, have a nice day- if you can
I’m a 1963 grad. Good to see some good news from MHS.
My wife grew up in Petaluma. Nice story.

just saying,..the day after getting his last mmr shot our son had a fever for two days and on the third he woke up different. All his goals in development were met up until that point. I remember seeing something about a link the day of his dr. visit and feeling and a strong urge to not take him that day. Dont respond or spewing either way.My son is gifted at music.and he’s not helpless, but if I could go back and act on that prompt. I’ve got a notion about the reason of this and I wont bring that up.
And I hope I see Bruce kicking field goals for Green Bay one day! God bless him!
well in light of recent info, maybe not Green Bay
