I don’t know why they go through the charade of questioning these corrupt people. Has anyone ever broken down and actually fessed up to all of the criminal activity? Does anyone actually go to jail, or even trial? What’s the point, other than to see what twisted responses they come up with?

Questions and answers in public Congressional testimony are negotiated and agreed to ahead of time. Witnesses aren’t really that composed, they follow a script. And Congressional questioners are not too slow-witted to think of devastating follow-ups, they are limited to what has been agreed to.
Note that questioners sometimes get in a zinger, but witnesses and other Congressmen normally ignore anything off script.
Even the ‘swearing in’ of witnesses is just part of the TV show. It’s a felony to lie to or even mislead Congress regardless of whether one is under oath.
I agree Judy, it is incredibly frustrating. It’s just a big waste of time, smoke and mirrors to distract the American public. I don’t ever see anybody getting punished for lying under oath.
