>> I was living in Mississippi in ‘63-’64, in the belly of the beast so to speak. Height of the civil rights turmoil. Race relations were a beautiful thing to behold. I vouchsafe in saying far better than in the north. But then came the filthy, rotten, northern trouble makers from New York, New Jersey, Massachussetts etc. and everything went to hell. Same scenario played out in other southern states.

> By "political purposes", do you refer to some means of gaining political power, such as in Washington DC? So people from the NorthEast, deliberately travel to the South to stir up racial troubles because it somehow translates into power in Washington?

As I mentioned before, why would people come from Massachusetts, New York and such to Mississippi? Are there not enough troubles in Detroit, Baltimore or Washington DC?

I'm asking if there is a political power angle, because I have started to notice such things.

DiogenesLamp: "By 'political purposes', do you refer to some means of gaining political power, such as in Washington DC?
So people from the NorthEast, deliberately travel to the South to stir up racial troubles because it somehow translates into power in Washington?"

As always, DiogenesLamp confuses Democrats for Republicans.
As far as I'm concerned, that whole "60s thing" was a family squabble amongst Democrats -- Northeastern Democrat media versus Southern Democrat racists.
Republicans played a minor role in the media spectacle, and Northern Democrats defeated their racist Southern kinfolk.
Here's what one of the most powerful Northeastern Power Broker said about it:
