A retired high school English teacher says a letter she received from President Trump would have barely earned passing marks, so she corrected the letter and sent it back to the White House.
Yvonne Mason, an Atlanta resident who retired this year after teaching middle and high school students in South Carolina for 17 years, corrected grammatical mistakes in the letter bearing Trump's signature, including 11 instances of improper capitalization of words like "president" and "state."
"If it had been written in middle school, I'd give it a C or C-plus," Mason told South Carolina's Greenville News. "If it had been written in high school, I'd give it a D."
She did not attach a letter grade in the letter she sent back to the White House.
Mason acknowledges the letter was likely written by a staffer. She received it after penning a letter requesting that Trump meet individually with the families who lost loved ones in the Feb. 14 high school shooting in Parkland, Fla.
"When you get letters from the highest level of government, you expect them to be at least mechanically correct," she told the newspaper.
"It's stylistically appalling," she added, comparing Trump's writing to the "exquisite" letters she's received from South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R) office.
The teacher said the White House response did not address her request specifically.

Another sad thing is, I guess we’re footing the bill for her generous pension so she can mark up papers and think she’s a big deal.
Well, tell Miss Humble that in my humble opinion she is a conceited, condescending jackass, aka, NeverTrumper.
"OMG this is wrong!"
OMG Trump capitalized the word "Nations" in the letter!
That's some picky poop. LoL.
That letter looks fine to me! She is most likely angry that Donald Trump, and NOT a criminal alcoholic lesbian, is OUR PRESIDENT!!!! :) !!!!!!
Just goes to emphasize the left has nuthin’.
Is this a separate edit from the one all over the web? I believe so. I think the other one I saw was the letter to KJU. That one, IMO, was a totally subjective editing job that had less to do with grammar and spelling than it did with the preferred locutions of the elitists. This leads me to conclude the progs are now reduced to nit-picking POTUS to death, like the vultures they wish they were. But they aren’t vultures. Vultures prefer carrion and POTUS is alive, well and kicking @ss. They are gnats. An annoyance. Ignore them.
What a miserable bunch.
I did the following: 1. 2. 3.
She's the typical teacher who is always right.
For manners and respect, this liberal idiot deserves an F.
The idiot busybody is a typical arrogant liberal.
Teacher strikes me as a sore loser democrat who was unable or unwilling to appreciate a personal letter from POTUS. Teacher must not realize that many Americans communicate at a 3rd grade level, and POTUS communicates with them at THEIR level. That’s how he won. And SHE is a pompous, stuffy snot!
Those comments are opinionated and ignorant.
She claims that the phrase, “I Signed into law”, should include a “specific agency”.
Once again, proof that liberals are uneducated idiots.
But Trump wouldn’t care a whit about this. He’d laugh though - LoL.
Only an ass would do as this teacher.
“I wonder if she graded papers this strictly up until her last days of shaping young minds “
Same mentality as posting nazis on FR.
The letter was written by a low level aide, an Obama holdover.
What the hell's a covfefe.
Best comment of the thread! That sums up this individual quite well.☺
I’m also a retired English (as a second language) teacher. She taught for only 17 years while I taught for nearly twice as long.
While I agree with a few of her corrections, only in capitalization, the rest of her criticisms are BS. Styles she doesn’t like are not wrong, and she “corrects” other usages that are just fine.
I would venture that most of her students who went on to college either didn’t do well in freshman English, or they had to take a remedial class.
17 years? Wiish I had a job like that. Must be a union.
Where can we see the letter with corrections?
Judging by his tweets, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wrote it, rather than an underling. He does have a habit of capitalizing things in ways that seem random, like William Washington’s letter I posted above.
Or George’s message below:
“Notwithstanding the discouraging Accounts I have received from Col: Reed of what might be expected from the Operations below, I am determined, as the night is favourable, to cross the River, & make the attack upon Trenton in the Morning. If you can do nothing real, at least create as great a diversion as possible.”
Perhaps he should hire an English teacher to write his letters if he can find a conservative one.
