Zuckerberg isn’t in trouble because he’s targeting or has unfair rules regarding conservatives. They are in trouble because liberals are livid that Facebook is now perceived as helping the Trump campaign via “fake news” and the Cambridge Analytica mess.
Facebook is a liberal echo chamber. They don’t give a shit if conservatives hate them.

Could someone explain to me in laymans terms what is happening?Yes.
Some folks are pissed that they didn't read the disclaimer plainly shown when they first joined FB.

I believe any free and public virtual space should be required to allow free speech like any other free and public physical space. You've lived up to your screen name.

I know some small biz owners who abandoned their websites for Facebook pages. I wonder if Facebook collected data on customers who aren’t members of Facebook....

I was "suspended" twice, for the same thread. I had the audacity to refer to the gender confused as trannies.Hey, I got suspended for the same reason!

No. Perfectly apt analogy. The behemoths I listed are effectively monopolies. Their market dominance and network effects from being the established platform make it well nigh impossible for others to EFFECTIVELY compete.....the same rationale that was used in regulatory action against Microsoft.
Its not that there are no competitors. Its that twitter, YouTube and Facebook have already effectively cornered the market. Look at the sheer volume of content as compared to their tiny competitors.
As monopolies they should be subject to antitrust action by the DOJ - particularly if they are going to abuse their monopoly position by censoring speech like they are.

They’re only dominant because those markets thrive on user-chosen concentration. You’d have to tell the users to go elsewhere; how do you “break up” a business which dominates only because customers chose it? Again, access to alternatives has zero friction in this market - people only chose FB/T because others did. The only reason I haven’t quit either is because people I want to follow are there; ditto everyone else.
The examples you gave have inherent friction they leveraged into dominance, making it hard for people to go elsewhere. Social media has no leverageable friction, nothing that competitors can’t do.

...not sure what that drivel is supposed to mean. Do you even know the meaning? (rhetorical)
Why should a virtual public space be any different than a physical public space? If you want to impose “rules” then you should have a PAID FOR private space.
Think.

Were talking social media here, not essentials like electricity or gasoline. You can live without Facebook & Twitter. You can live without Gasoline and electricity too, I have done it. Life is better with them just like life is better for some with FB & Twit or FreeRepublic..

If you’re trying to justify your argument by equating the social vitality of Facebook to electricity, you’ve lost the argument.
