Most snowflake retail cashiers these days rely on the register to compute a customers change. I highly doubt we can rely on them to notice an aberration such as a customer who is wearing gloves. It is rare that snowflakes make eye contact or manage to utter a group of words that resemble a sentence.
If you look at the picture where he is at the counter, the gloves are no longer on his hands. Usually when I drop off packages, the clerk is either busy with someone else or in the area on the other side of a wall behind the counter doing other things. I have walked in many times, put my package(s) on the scale table and waited for someone to come out to the counter.
