Chesterfield County police arrest 20-year-old Devante Evans on one count of misdemeanor petty larceny. LOL. This is an easy one...

“but reminded citiznes to contact police first.”
Remember - when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
Not dissing our fine LEOs, but sometimes you can’t wait and just have to take action. Attaboy, Mr. Watkins!

The
Good Samaritan story is about someone helping an enemy. Was the 77-year-old woman an enemy of the neighborhood?

I had to laugh - I looked up "Devonte Evans" on Google and got about twenty images of different criminals all over the country plus about one sports figure.
Probably a great reason for never naming your kid Devonte.

Exactly. With a name like that, no description of the perp is necessary.

Is it me or does this article read like a ten-year-old wrote it?

The Good Samaritan story is about someone helping an enemy. Was the 77-year-old woman an enemy of the neighborhood? No, the story of the Good Samaritan is about someone in need who was ignored by all the 'proper, upright' people but was helped by a member of a group which was despised by Jesus' listeners.
In a modern USA context, the story could be retold to a cocktail party of MSM anchors as being about a white man with a mullet haircut, rural Southern accent, denim jacket with cut-off sleeves and driving a beat-up pickup truck with a big Confederate Battle Flag who spends his free time delivering Meals On Wheels to needy, elderly black folks. Who live along the route to the upscale restaurants favored by the attendees of that cocktail party.
In essence, "Identity Politics do not matter. Actions do."

I disagree as do others found by searching Good Samaritan enemy but you're saying the 77-year-old woman was ignored by all the 'proper, upright' people of the neighborhood who saw her plight but just passed by? And the ones who helped her were despised?
I think I still have a point with your interpretation of the parable.

Police also said they appreciate citizens helping, but reminded citizens to contact police first. What a joke. The perp is escaping and the cops response is, "Call 911" and we'll be there in 25 minutes to take your report.
Some times you can't side with the cops.
Lock and load.

"Call 911" and we'll be there in 25 minutes to take your report. I have been there on a felony in progress at my home. The 911 dispatcher asked if I was armed (I confirmed that I was) and said the police would arrive in 15 minutes or so. Would they have been faster if I was unarmed? I suspect not.

Police also said they appreciate citizens helping, but reminded citiznes to contact police first.Because when seconds count, LE is only minutes away!
Screw that.
God bless those good Samaritans!
And why aren't those charges aggravated? Targeting geezers doesn't rate aggravation in that jurisdiction?

A car came speeding through our neighborhood past the park where many children were playing. He sideswiped two parked cars, hit the curb and lost a wheel. I ran from the park to call 911, explaining what happened. THe 911 dispatcher said that someone would be there in about 30 minutes. I told her that she did not understand. The whole neighborhood had this guy in custody and I was afraid they might kill him. She said, “Oh, cool. Someone will be there in 3 minutes.”

Sounds like Devante thought it would be easy pickings snatching the purse of this elderly lady. Too bad for you, Devante, that Justin Watkins was in the area and put the smackdown on you.
Congratulations, Mr. Watkins.
