Merry Christmas is back at the White House (tr)

On Monday, the Trump family debuted their holiday card, which wishes Americans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, instead of the generic, more politically correct, 'Happy Holidays.'

That's different from last year's card sent out by President Obama, which included a family photo and wished Americans a 'joyous holiday season.'

The Trump card is signed by President Trump, first lady Melania Trump and even 11-year-old Barron and was displayed in the White House's 'Bookseller's' area, as the Christmas decorations were unveiled today.

The Merry Christmas card keeps Trump's pledge to 'say Merry Christmas again' when he campaigned.

He repeated the pledge most recently in October at the Voter Values Summit when he said: 'They don't use the word 'Christmas' because it's not politically correct,' Trump said. 'We're saying 'Merry Christmas' again.'

The Obamas, in contrast, always said 'Happy Holidays' in their cards, although their defenders say the president used 'merry Christmas' in speeches.

But the Trumps did make common cause with the Obamas by including Barron, in the same way Sasha and Malia had been in their predecessors' cards.

While Barron did not play host alongside mom Melania today, he did guide Americans through this year's Christmas tour.

That's because an illustrated version of the first son is featured in this year's White House Christmas booklet, given to the throngs of tourists and guests who visit the executive mansion during the holidays.

The booklet, titled 'Time-Honored Traditions,' for this year's decorative theme, starts out with cartoon Barron on the cover guiding the horse-drawn carriage carrying the White House's Christmas tree.

The real Barron wasn't behind the wheel, though did a walk-around of the carriage last week alongside his mother, surveying the 18-foot, 6-inch Wisconsin-grown beauty, headed to the White House's blue room.

I remember the rally after the election win last year when Trump was saying Merry Christmas 50 times surrounded by Merry Christmas signs just to anger the snowflake liberal Obamatoons! Was great to see the era of libtard political correctness is over!

This may sound nuts, but I like the fact that Barron’s signature is included, too. His parents’ signatures are very sophisticated, and his is an 11-year old’s. It’s very sweet.

Not Barron’s signature — he’s printed his name, and it’s a bad job at that, even for an 11 y/o. Many schools no longer teaching penmanship or cursive writing. Having said that, my penmanship and cursive writing have become horrible...too many years tapping away on a keyboard.

I agree with you about Barron’s “signature”. We homeschool and mom is death from above on handwriting. My son’s cursive is almost calligraphic, and the embassy here used him to write out invitations for the Marine Ball and other functions.

There is nothing that says education better than a beautiful signature.

Cursive writing is now the secret code of those of us over 50. And I agree - my penmanship too deteriorates unless I use it. Like any other learned skill, it requires exercise.

Sort of like Morse code ;)

I saw a movie a few days ago, and a millennial was trying to locate someone’s parents. Another millennial said, “That generation has landlines you can find them...”

So I guess 50+ generation is defined by cursive, landlines, and DVDs. Should do a thread on all the other things that have gone by the wayside.

For those who are interested, HGTV is supposed to air the White House Christmas tour on Dec. 10 at 6pm ET, although it’s not on their schedule yet.

Mr. and Mrs. Trump share a similar handwriting style.

Cursive writing is very important for creativity. It is the choice for journaling. It gets people in touch with their independent thinking

It is phased out for that reason, one can imagine, and so that future generations cannot read founding or historical documents

When phasing our original or traditional practices like this, like maintaining femininity, masculinity, borders, discriminatory immigration rules, it is just stupid to accept it without realizing consequences.

Well i guess i’m Too conservative. But accepting progressives ideas is stupid

I completely agree! :)

I get the impression that Melania is like a lioness--extremely protective of her son. Including Barron was a thoughtful, loving thing to do.

Me, too! His inclusion simply recognizes their family unit today and that their son is a part of that. It is inspiring to see the family portrayed for what it is.

Somehow I don’t think the cop who pulled that car over for that particular tree had a problem with Christmas though!
