It is always interesting to see people state wild assumptions as facts, which you have just done in part of your post.
Flake is an idiot, he and John Giles both know that Flake couldnt get elected to be a justice of the peace. Giles is actually a good Mayor in a fairly non-political job. Knowing him, which I do, I know he wasnt serious with that dumb quip which Im sure he made in jest in the moment and greatly regrets now.
The LDS Church does not tell people who to vote for, ever...
Most LDS people voted for Trump, although many didnt like his crudeness but recognized that conservatives need a street fighter, not a loser RINO like Flake, or someone like Romney who wasnt a fighter and who cares too much about what the liberal MSM has to say about him.
Ironic that Matt Salmon, the best House Rep Arizona ever had, following through on his good government pledge to not stay more than two terms in Congress jump started the career of Flake, the kind of Washington entrenched loser that terms limits were intended to prevent.
Looks like Flake thinks he can turn being the most strident anti- Trumper into a nomination in 2020.
Don't much like the anti LDS bias much myself. Some of the best people I have ever known.

Well perhaps not directly, but as one who was raised in the Mormon Church, the fact of the matter is that like other religions, Mormons stick together, and they are way, way more homogenous in their support for one another that most religions. Harry Reid is an outlier.
Several years ago I told the Home Teachers they were no longer welcome at our home because of Harry Reid. They told us that the local Ward was probably 95% in favor of his excommunication because he certainly wasn’t living as a “worthy” person. Beyond that, the Mormon Church is all open borders, so they can bring their “Mexican Converts” here without government interference. It’s actually a position that goes against one of their “Articles of Faith” wherein they agree to be subservient to government laws and policies.
