In 1979 Roy Moore was a West Point Military Academy graduate, an Army Captain, a Vietnam War vet and a recent graduate of the University of Alabama Law School.
He was also single which made him a top tier most eligible bachelor candidate in 1970s
Alabama
Even upper class moms would have been circling like vultures trying to set there daughters with young Roy Moore given his accomplishments and blue chip future prospects.
Times were different back then in the South.
Women got married young and their future lives were largely determined by the quality of the man they married. Far from being seen a child molester, parents would have seen Moore as a highly accomplished suitor who was well established and and a stable potential husband for their daughter.
For their part, the women of the South of that era may have been young but most were 16 or 18 going on 29. They were far from immature and could take take care of themselves.
Given Roy Moore's status top tier most eligible bachelor, he could have played the rake, taken advantage of young women and cut wide swath sowing his wild oats with the young ladies of the day.
Instead, the very testimony of his would be accusers show that, by his actions, he was a decent, honorable suitor who, in the tradition of Southern Gentlemen, kept his hands to himself and did not take advantage of or force himself and any young women.
I mean really, he actually kissed several of them.
Give me a break.
This is perfectly stated, yet we will never hear it anywhere else other than a site like this. Great overall post, thanks for your thoughts and time.
So true. It brings to mind the courtship of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu. Priscilla was 14 at the time and Elvis was 24. Everything was open and above board, with Priscillas parents giving full permission for the relationship to proceed. They even went so far as to take their young daughter to Germany to visit Elvis when he was in the Army.
