Myopic view on my part... have been a police officer for 26 years now... since we replaced our shotguns with rifles years ago... it has been hammered into us that they are sighted into point of aim point of impact at 100 yards. We never and I mean never train over that distance... and I work in an urban environment... so much past that is difficult at best... apologize for the tunnel vision there...
The guys I hunt and shoot with are all pretty experienced at intermediate range shots 50 to 350 yards. Whenever a new guy joins us he usually does the same thing -- sights in at 100 yards, and is not ready for any shots over 150 yards or so.
If you look at a drop table you see the huge advantage of allowing a slight mid-trajectory rise.
