Even by President Donald Trumps standards of aggressive bombast and hyperbole, his speech to the United Nations on Tuesday was a stunner. He overtly threatened to wipe out North Korea, a country of 25 million people.
Trump and North Korean President Kim Jong Un have been trash-talking for some time now about North Koreas aggressive pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. But Trump raised the ante in his U.N. speech when he said that the Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself.
Just prior to that statement Trump said, The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.
Let that sink in for a minute. Set aside for a moment the name-calling, which is a Trump trademark. There is no mistaking the intent here. The president was not talking about regime change. Or sanctions. Or international pressure. He was talking about launching an attack designed to wipe out 25 million people.
It is possible that Trump is employing the Madman Theory employed to great usefulness by Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. For that technique to work the other side simply has to believe that a leader is a madman capable of anything. Of course, there is always the danger that the other side might be so fearful that it would decide to launch a first strike. Its a risky strategy.
Prior to the U.N. speech a national poll indicated that more than 60 percent of Americans were uneasy with Trumps ability to handle the North Korea situation. After the U.N. speech, we will bet that number is higher.

It’s not Trumps plan it’s his promise to Kim if Kim keeps being stupid.
No, what you want is a preemptive response. When you find out someone is building a weapon with which to kill you, you go confront the son of a b*tch and demand a throw down right now before he has the means to hurt you.
Curtis LeMay was right. He has always been right.
The Murky Fake News....but of course
Works for me. Terrific speech. So great to have a leader with balls and love of country!
San jose merc news is just running to the defense of their brothers in America hatred.
How many people do you think Kim Young Loon would kill if he hit the West Coast with nukes?
Millions if the city was San Francisco or Los Angeles, but it would change a lot with so many of those people gone.
I have witnessed this disgusting attitude since 9/11 from the left. They would rather see 25 million Americans killed because we would have done something to deserve it and will sell out the country and its people to protect the enemies. I have no understanding of this liberal “logic”. It is insane and horrific.
Yep, and we are going to have to do the same with Iran eventually. Thanks Chairman Obama!
Two nukes on Japan set them straight. Don’t see it not working in this case.
I guess they’re not old enough to remember that “Mutual Assured Destruction” and “Deterrence” were concepts known and understood by the man on the street.
And then there’s a billion or more muslims to do although I suspect that if Trump incinerated a couple of million norks most muslims would start wearing crosses and praising Jesus.
A recent image of the San Jose Mercury News editorial board.
It’s wonderful that these editorialists can just make up things Trump said. Did we kI’ll the entire population of Japan 70 years ago? Because we sure as hell totally destoyed the country. How ‘bout Germany? Totally destroyed that place too.

The Murky Nooze.

AU CONTRAIRE, MON AMI! I feel easy with President Trump’s ability.
Where in the hell do these jerks get their percentages like “more than 60%?” I wouldn’t wipe my butt with the San Jose Mercury.
He should add the caveat, “Unless the NORKs bomb some really left wing liberal place that thinks keeping Americans safe is a bad thing...”
