When I was a third grader in public suburban Connecticut elemetary school, we were taught to sing “Cotton Needs Pickin’”. I bet they don’t teach that in music class anymore.
I remember singing that song, too, when I was in elementary school on Long Island, NY. (MANY years ago)
“Gonna jump down turn around pick a bale of cotton.
Gonna jump down turn around pick a bale today.
Cotton needs pickin’, so-oo bad....”
That’s all the words I remember.
We sang Pick a Bake of Cotton. But my school was all white. By the way, a lot of white people also picked cotton.
