Changing their religion would not help. The Burmese military is currently fighting the Christian Kachin and the Buddhist Shan. They oppress all ethnic minorities. The Rohingya were well represented in the British census of 1799. They are not illegal immigrants. I have no love for Islam, but I have walked the jungle trails of Burma with Christian missionaries and seen the rape, murder, torture and ethnic cleansing that is the SOP of the Tatmadaw (Burma Army).

An army that kills Christians, Buddhists, and Moslums including women and children because they are not ethnic Burmans is evil..

FBRhawk - good work in Iraq !

” because they are not ethnic Burmans “

This is my point - the Burmese can be the ultimate evil badasses. Were long ago ( ask the Thai ) and remain to be ( at times & laces) today .

I used to visit the Karen on the Thai side , in the 80’s . I remember Manerplaw (sp)

I see the low land Burmese as the continuing incarnations of those of the past . All Tatmadaw are of lowland Burmese origin , no? In addition the central Burmese people/kings/kingdoms were always adept at putting together coalitions to advance their militaristic ambitions . Maybe this continues . The Brit era was merely an interlude .
The Pagan Burmese would have never let muslims in ,voluntarily , had it not been forced upon them by the wide ranging Brits . Whom moved colonial people around like pawns .
