I recommend the ‘self-insuring’ they used when I was there: disposable housing!
Except for Old Town and Hotels 90% of the housing was trailers, and used trailers at that. Lose ‘em and you ain’t lost nothing.
Saw a County study that said all residents (not counting visitors) could be evacuated in 20 hours today, Not bad. They’ve improved US1 quite a bit.
There are still trailers in the keys but fewer every year,average price of homes in Islamorada close to 500k.
