Jefferson Sessions Statement, June 13, 2017
Let me also explain clearly the circumstances of my recusal from the investigation into the Russian interference with the 2016 election. I was sworn in as Attorney General on Thursday, February 9th. The very next day, I met with career Department officials, including a senior ethics official, to discuss some things publicly reported in the press and that might have some bearing on the issue of recusal. From that point, February 10th, until I announced my formal recusal on March 2nd, I was never briefed on any investigative details and did not access information about the investigation; I received only the limited information that the Department's career officials determined was necessary to inform my recusal decision. As such, I have no knowledge about this investigation beyond what has been publicly reported, and I have taken no action with regard to any such investigation. On the date of my formal recusal, my Chief of Staff sent an email to the heads of the relevant departments, including by name to Director Comey of the FBI, to instruct them to inform their staffs of this recusal and to advise them not to brief me or involve me in any such matters. And in fact, they have not. Importantly, I recused myself not because of any asserted wrongdoing on my part during the campaign, but because a Department of Justice regulation, 28 CFR 45.2, required it. That regulation states, in effect, that Department employees should not participate in investigations of a campaign if they have served as a campaign advisor.
“First he has to delegitimize Mueller.”
Just looking at Mueller’s face is enough to delegitimize him. He looks like he has the devil in him. And that actually may be the case.
Find out where Mueller lives. Form a group to stand right outside his front gate. Nobody speaks. Everyone just stares at him when he leaves, and looks into his house with binoculars when he is there. Every day. Every night. Never let him forget that American patriots are watching him, and that American patriots will not let him get away with this.
participate in a criminal investigation or prosecution if he has a personal or political relationship with any person or organization substantially involved in the conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution, or who would be directly affected by the outcome.
28 CFR 45.2 - Disqualification arising from personal or political relationship.
Sessions found that he had a political relationship with the Trump campaign, arising from service as a principal adviser to that campaign. Given that finding, the rule says he should recuse.
The rule does provide an exception. I'm confident the formal recusal analysis considered the exception and that it did not apply. The public would not believe Sessions was an impartial judge of allegations against the Trump campaign.
-- He's either under investigation or not ... --
Conflict and recusal for conflict applies to the investigator or prosecutor, not to the target.
The "campaign advisor" language is at part (c).
(c) For the purposes of this section:(1)Political relationship means a close identification with an elected official, a candidate (whether or not successful) for elective, public office, a political party, or a campaign organization, arising from service as a principal adviser thereto or a principal official thereof
If he wasn’t under investigation and Trump wasn’t under investigation part c doesn’t apply either.
Huh? Part (c) is a definition. Substitute the definition of part (c) into the rule in part (a).
(c) For the purposes of this section:
"this section" is a reference to the entirety of section 45.2 of 28 CFR.
(1) Political relationship means ...
The word "means" here implies that what follows is a definition.
You can ignore my remarks to you. I just rediscovered that I mean to never remark to you.
Where is the official word of an investigation to make any of that valid?
Patriotic Americans need to drain the swamp.
MASADA and TRUMP
Around the year 73 CE or so, a large group of Jewish rebels fled from Roman oppression to a mountain plateau called Masada. The Romans laid siege to them by constructing a huge earthen ramp. Before the ramp was completed, rather than surrender to what they understood would be a fate worse than death at the hands of the Romans, the 960 rebels (men, women and children) killed themselves. (Details here for those interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masada)
In November, 2016, a rebellious American electorate decided it had had enough of passively watching their rights stripped by arrogant, out-of-touch deep state Democrats and equally deep state GOPe types and sent to the White House an equally rebellious OUTSIDER.
If some of you believe that Donald Trump is behaving strangely, think of Masada.
He’s being besieged and vilified by an 85%+ majority leftist media and DC deep state insiders of BOTH PARTIES who are threatened by this rebellious outsider. The White House is looking more and more like that mountain plateau in the desert and the unprecedented attacks on the man and his family could be analogized as that ramp the Romans constructed to reach and destroy those damned rebels on that plateau.
Allow me to cite an example of how the pressure of the attacks on Trump just manifested.
Jeff Sessions is a decent man. That said, I now question why without apparently discussing it with the President he recused himself in connection with the moronic inquisitional Russian probe (anal?) by deep state establishment leftists Democrats and GOPe types cut from a nearby section of the same cloth. (I also have grave reservations about Session’s recent support for unadjudicated and totally UNCONSTITUTIONAL civil forfeiture, but that’s a topic for another time.)
Trump’s anger stemmed from Sessions’ recusal as it has put in motion what even Rush has characterized as the most partisan opposition research operation in the history of politics. From Mueller on down, EVERY individual in that cohort is a self-identified Democrat deep stater and Clinton partisan! In fact, at Mueller’s law firm, 99.81% of their donations went to Hillary Clinton! If Donald Trump is appearing just a tad paranoid, it’s because they really ARE out to get him!
Thought Sessions did serve in the Senate, as a gentleman from the old South, he was one of the more gentile and courteous members in that body. While not naive, he probably overlooked the periodic knifings by the left as simply their normal M.O. Trump a New Yorker has a very different response to such behavior: He knifes them back! That’s why WE sent him into that den of vipers!
And the news just in that Sean Spicer is out and his replacement is an old Trump friend is simply more evidence that Trump is beginning to grasp the importance of surrounding himself ONLY with folks who fully understand and agree with his agenda and will not waffle and spar with a clearly hostile media gaggle.
While it might be a bit of a stretch, can you see some similarities between Masada and what the new centurions of the deep state are doing to Trump?
My prayer is that, unlike the tragic outcome at Masada, OUR rebel prevails and defeats this new barbaric Roman legion.
“Not waiting doing nothing. Waiting until the right time to fire him. He didn’t fire Comey on day 1. Instead he waited for the DAG to investigate Comey and write the letter”
Disagree. Why give Mueller and his cohorts more time to dig up dirt on Trump and his family? This is pure and simple, a democRAT political witch hunt, that must be stopped. Trump can make a very good case to the people if he fires Mueller.
” He’s not. First he has to delegitimize Mueller. This is part of that effort.
Effectively done, Mueller will have to leave, or be fired by the weight of public and Congressional opinion.”
Trump waited too long to fire Comey and what did that get him...a special prosecutor, Mueller. Meanwhile a case is being built to destroy Trump and his family. You don’t make billions without cutting corners. Time is of the essence.
What a shame.
