Peter W. Smith, GOP operative who sought Clinton's emails from Russian hackers, committed suicide...

A Republican donor and operative from Chicago's North Shore who said he had tried to obtain Hillary Clinton's missing emails from Russian hackers killed himself in a Minnesota hotel room days after talking to The Wall Street Journal about his efforts, public records show.

In a room at a Rochester hotel used almost exclusively by Mayo Clinic patients and relatives, Peter W. Smith, 81, left a carefully prepared file of documents, which includes a statement police called a suicide note in which he said he was in ill health and a life insurance policy was expiring.

Days earlier, the financier from suburban Lake Forest gave an interview to the Journal about his quest, and it published stories about his efforts beginning in late June. The Journal also reported it had seen emails written by Smith showing his team considered retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, then a top adviser to Republican Donald Trump's campaign, as an ally. Flynn briefly was President Trump's national security adviser and resigned after it was determined he had failed to disclose contacts with Russia.

Depends, I had a policy where suicide would only pay after the first 2 years. They figured if you didn’t off yourself within 2 years, you didn’t intend to at the time of taking out the policy.

Many relatives assume the same and do not make a claim... Insurers cannot legally deny the claim if the policy was written 2 years prior as it is assumed their was no intent to defraud. The insurance policy expiring soon is the one thing that I think throws a wet towel over this and gives a plausible reason for suicide... especially if his prognosis was bad.

Suicide will void MOST life insurance policies but ONLY if it takes place within a specified amount of time from when the policy went into effect; it is usually 2-3 years from the effective date of the policy.

After a ‘waiting period’ of 2-3 years, suicide gets the green light.

Assisted suicide?

which includes a statement police called a suicide note in which he said he was in ill health and a life insurance policy was expiring

Yeah...Because life insurance policies usually cover suicide. NOT.

Maybe he got a 30-year term policy at age 52? You’re right that getting a 10-year extension in his 70s would be extremely expensive and of dubious utility, even if he still was working full-time.

Yeah...Because life insurance policies usually cover suicide. NOT.

Usually they do, but only after 6 mo or 1 year from the issue date of the policy.

OTOH, one could regard looking for and finding dirt on the clintons is suicide

Let me guess, his life insurance policy covered suicide and the klinton foundation was the beneficiary.

“No doubt Hillary Clinton and the Deep State are the suspects.”

Not in today’s climate- it will be Trump Jr’s fault.
