the fact that it is flowing means there is more ice being added further “upstream”...

So if there was no ice berg calvi8ng off the shelf and the shelf itself recedes back into the Continental plain, THEN the ice is melting FASTER than it is being replaced “upstream”... But like any other river system there are YEARLY variations!
