John McCain on Comey firing: ‘There will be more shoes to drop’

President Trump’s sudden firing of FBI Director James B. Comey is bad for the country and will not be the end of the Trump-Russia affair, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told a group of foreign diplomats and experts Tuesday night.

Although McCain did not directly accuse the White House of firing Comey to thwart the FBI’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s possible Russia ties, he did say that if that was the intention, it would fail.

“This scandal is going to go on. I’ve seen it before,” McCain told a meeting of the Munich Security Conference core group. “This is a centipede. I guarantee you there will be more shoes to drop, I can just guarantee it. There’s just too much information that we don’t have that will be coming out.”

He called Trump’s actions against Comey “unprecedented” and said the position of FBI director has held special meaning in American public life dating back decades.

“I remember the Saturday Night Massacre,” McCain told the mostly European and American guests, referring to the 1973 incident when President Nixon fired the special prosecutor looking into the Watergate break-in, Archibald Cox.

“Probably the most respected individual in all of the American government is probably the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” McCain said. “I’m very sorry that this has happened.”

The event was off the record, but McCain gave me permission to place his comments on the record. He said that Trump had the legal basis to fire Comey but that his decision would have long-term negative consequences.

Senator McCain is using the fake investigation in order to further his personal antipathy towards Russia.

That is why he and others won’t let go of it despite the fact that there is zero evidence of collusion between the Trump Campaign and Russia on the 2016 election.

That is the big picture that supersedes Senator McCain’s hatred of President Trump.

McCain is a Stealth Democrat posting as a Republican. FACT

People need to stop referring to McCain as a Republican. McCain is one of the top Dem operatives working in Washington. He is corrupt.

I loathe McCain as the Democrat that he is.

Nothing but trouble. While he smoothed the way for BamBam multiple times.

John McCain can constantly be relied upon to repeat kooky-liberal talking points.

I had to hold my nose and vote for this idiot in 2008 because I knew how dangerous Barky was. All for naught.

He’s as insane as Chuck Schumer with his lies.

McCain is not up for reelection until 2022.

2022.

The “Russian hacking” of Podesta/DNC emails only highlights the fact how reckless Hillary Clinton was with classified info and why THAT was why Comey should be fired. They will never have any evidence of this alleged Russia-Trump connection and McCain is a traitor to this country pushing this witch hunt.

Really evil, temperamental guy. He’s unstable and there still is no evidence while McCain tries to say Trump is guilty.

Hadn’t he just gotten out of the Hanoi Hilton in 1973?

Good question, not 100% on the answer.
Your point on release from Hanoi in 73 may be accurate.

I wasn’t in that part of the discussion but I did hear Archibald Cox at a lecture in college. Not a big turnout but I was there to hear about the history.

Cox fwiw seemed to be a fine fellow and light years from the politicized operators under Clinton and Obama holding DoJ responsibility.
