“There are many difficulties in obtaining reliable statistics relative to the
number of elderly sexual homicides. One of the most problematic of these
involves the identification of the offense as a homicide without note of the
subordinate offense of rape or sexual assault (Brownmiller, 1975).2”
That caveat means the rape of elderly women is under-reported because it’s hidden in the homicide data.
