This excerpt was something I think I felt at some level, but had never consciously formed into a discrete statement as VDH did in his article:
"...The cultures obsession with tribalism and special ethnic interestsoften couched in terms of opposing white privilegehad alienated millions of less well-off white voters. Quietly, many thought that if ethnic activists were right that the white majority was shrinking into irrelevance, and if it was acceptable for everyone to seek solidarity through their tribal affiliations, then poor whites could also rally under the banner of their own identity politics. If such trends were to continue in a nation that is still 70 percent white, it would prove disastrous for the Democratic Party in a way never envisioned during the era of Barack Obama..."
It never occurred to me to view it quite that way, but what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.
I have been saying this to anyone who will listen. Identity politics with a large mmajority only works if you can split the majority and keep them from not forming their own tribe. That is what the charges of racism and white privelege are all about.
If enough of the “white tribe” unite, the democrats are done. It won’t be because of racism, but because of white people in effect embracing the democrats identity politics.
