This came up before and Puerto Rico did not want to become a state. It seems they get many benefits as it is without being a state. Do a search on FR for Puerto Rico.
Of course the Demoncrats want to ram it through. Gotta get all those welfare voters.

Puerto Rico has had a gov. which bankrupted them, which we had to bail out, but haven’t heard anything about them trying for statehood lately.
