Using five year old numbers total unionized federal workforce is slightly over one million, lets call it 1.2M. The total federal workforce is roughly 4.95M. That’s 1.2/4.95 = .2424 or 24.24%. So since these are 5 year old numbers lets call it 25%.
So roughly 1/4 federal workers are union. Not as much as I thought but still government workers should not be in a union. Even FDR thought it crazy!
Certain agencies are prohibited from having a union, like DOJ or the FBI. However, others like the FDIC and the treasury (which includes the IRS) have significant union membership and are virtually under their control. That 25% is much worse when you factor out the employees at the prohibited agencies.
