Just as Chicago is moving ahead with new technology that could help reduce gunfire deaths, Congress and the Illinois Senate are considering misguided bills that could shoot Chicagos effort to pieces by making gun silencers easily available.
Chicagos new technology, called ShotSpotter, alerts police as soon as bullets start flying, instead of making them wait for a phone call. Officers can respond more quickly sometimes within seconds. By arriving faster, detectives are more likely to find witnesses, and crime scene personnel have a better chance of scooping up evidence, such as shell casings. Victims can get medical care faster. Recently, Chicagos Public Building Commission voted to spend $938,500 to expand ShotSpotter in the Englewood and Harrison police districts, which are home to most of the citys gun violence.

So the rest of us are supposed to suffer because Democrats have created a copy of Mogadishu in Chicago.
Guess will see lots of excuses to avoid passing the hearing safety law. Reality is if silencers were available, which I would like, only a couple of my guns could even mount them. I suspect this is true for a lot of folks.
Once again, Chicago liberals refuse to address the source of the problem Pro-active policing would stop the violence at the source, like Rudy did in NYC. Notice that this is after-the-fact when people have already been shot.
Uhhhhh ... snitches get stitches, yo.
The crooks in Chicago will soon be able to create diversions by shooting into the air. There won’t be enough police to react to all the noise. I wonder if this shooter tech can tell the difference between gunshots and firecrackers.
Of COURSE they is bad......................lookit all them there SPY MOVIES!!
Gang bangers don’t want silence. They want to spread fear of their gang. You can’t do that when you are quiet. If they wanted them, they would have them already.
As if the guys with illegal guns can’t get illegal suppressors.
Does HiPoint make a threaded 9mm?
Correct: to mount a suppressor on my semi I would have to buy a new, threaded barrel, and they won’t even work on my ARs, due to the supersonic rounds.
But we must deny them to everyone because, well, ghetto people.
Yes, because the only thing that stands in the way of me becoming a paid assassin is the relative inaccessibility of silencers....
Irresponsible criminal Democrats do not have a right to shut down the world of technological advancement.
Stupid people die from gravity related problems every single day, should we ground every vehicle capable of flight? Democrats say yes!
President Trump should call on reset of 2nd amendment—national recognition of it, CCW, etc. as an outreach to minorities. Clearly most gun laws are race-based, affecting law abiding minority citizens in our urban areas—Chicago, LA, New York, etc. Time to end the blatant racism and give all lawful US citizens equal access and use of the 2nd amendment.
Most people who impulsively murder other human beings for a few hundred bucks aren’t really good...um...planners.
I can see it now - Hey, I’m gonna pop a cap in DeShawn tonight, anybody know where I can get a threaded barrel for my piece?
“The crooks in Chicago will soon be able to create diversions by shooting into the air”
Very good point.
The problem is, I don't think anybody really wants to jump into the middle of an ongoing gun battle. I doubt ShotSpotter will make that big a difference.
ShotSpotter merely monitors the problem.
As the commercial on TV says “ Why monitor a problem if you are not going to fix it?”
OMG, the Chicago homicide solve rate might go down to 19% from 20%.
Any child with money can buy suppressors over the counter in New Zealand.
