Students at Independence High School in Williamson County, Tennessee, will not be allowed to watch President-elect Donald Trumps inauguration during class on Friday.
Senior Olivia Roberts was so surprised by the ban she decided to write a Facebook post that has since gone viral:
To preface this, I am not one to post or debate anything political on Facebook but wanted to hear thoughts on this:
I go to public school and we are not allowed to watch the inauguration tomorrow...
Teachers are banned to show it.
Teachers are also not allowed to discuss anything about politics or religions which is understandable but this is a nationwide event in history that I think an a US citizen (whether you are happy about it or not) should be watched to honor and support the president of The United States of America (no matter who it is) And pay respect to the country we are privileged to live in. We watched the last 2 presidential inaugurations in school.

Good grief. You would have hated my Catholic School. No Inaugural Speech from Carter, Reagan, Bush Senior. Yikes. I don’t know why schools need to interrupt their day for that. Can’t kids watch it later at home. Do companies allow for workers to watch? I doubt it big time. I know they didn’t allow it for Obama and sure as heck won’t allow it for Trump.
OK.. just did.
It references one school.
So not all schools then, huh?
Just a story about one. Which maybe is true.
Yeah.
I honestly believe school leaders and teachers should be removed, if they handle this any differently than it was handled in 2012.
This is a national event. It’s historic.
I wash there was a way to revoke the ability for public employees to be in unions.
I laugh with you.
Bwahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
By population.
Not, apparently, by elected school boards.
You said one, hg. It was actually two in this article. If you want more look them up yourself. ;-)
SERIOUSLY???
You're on Freeepublic.
Freeepublic is on the internet.
Do a Google search.
Copy and past the school name and location.

Thanks.
Next week, stay tuned to see where one kid peed in a reservoir
and now every drop of American water is contaminated with pee.

Williamson County, Tennessee. The most affluent county in Tennessee where many of the music industry call home.
Someone post the contact info for this government run school.
And thanks for bumping the thread!
I agree and the watching of the inaugural address was handled differently in this particular school.
Not only that but this HS principal would not address that fact with the mother of a student.
If the NEA was abolished it would be a big step forward to improving the education of students nationwide.
And teachers wonder why there is so muc home schooling and rumblings about charter schools.
They watched the last two but can’t watch this one?????????
Gee,I wonder if Hillary’s speech would have been allowed?
This is an absolute disgrace.
.
To heck with that....fire the superintendent and the School Board should be relieved of their duties. What is the matter with these people....Communists? They must truly hate America. Tennessee was once a truly American state.......go ahead and call in sick....!!!
I agree. They’re worth a certain amount of money a day for attendance.......take that money away from these idiot administrators whose political interest (leftists) is taking away from a civics lesson here. The peaceful transfer of power.
Yes, I agree.
I have a family member that continually pushes the ‘party line’ of the union leaders.
They don’t express it that way, but I can tell from the information exactly where they got it.
Truth be told, I’m not sure I know the half of it either.
California is way upside down on it’s pensions, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the unions are in the same boat.
I don’t wish bad things for anyone, but the unrealistic things promised, and the shady character of the unions, I don’t see how this doesn’t melt down sooner or later.
They do not advocate for the kids. They advocate for the membership.
The city, county, state, and nation be damned, they have only one thing on their mind, the union and self.
Okay, two things... LOL
Thanks, it was a “say nothing, do nothing” statement.
