What exactly is the point of planned parenthood? I mean ignoring the anti abortion rhetoric. Is it charity medical care for women sponsored by the government? If so, why on earth is it necessary? There are plenty of charity hospitals for the poor — not that I support those since they make medical care more expensive for responsible people. My point is that organizations like it, privately funded and run, exist. What is the point??

You know the point of PP. Abortions.

People go to PP for pregnancy testing, abortions, and birth control. But they all are tied to abortions. If you want the baby, you can buy the preg test at the pharmacy. Birth control is either for the lucky women who find out at PP that they are not pregnant and now wish to prevent that scare from happening again, or post abortion. People who go to PP do not want a pregnancy.

There are plenty of low cost health clinics for women who need other services. Even free clinics. I know one smart LA west side doctor who works his usual clinic during the day, taking insurance and the like, then has a cash only, low cost clinic on evenings and weekends. I believe even the ER would run a free OB gyn check (cancer screen, etc) for a poor woman, or direct her appropriately. There is NO need for PP no matter what Ivanka says.

Excellent question in post 9.

We need a new song on this subject, sung to the tune of “War, war, what is it good for...”
