HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Frustrated after seeing another candidate secure the presidency without winning the national popular vote, mostly Democratic lawmakers in several capitols want their states to join a 10-year-old movement to work around the Electoral College.
In states including Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Mexico, legislators have said they plan to introduce legislation that would require their states Electoral College voters cast ballots for the presidential candidate who earns the most votes nationwide, regardless of the statewide results.

They are taking the vote out of the hands of their own constituents. What is wrong with these idiots?
Wouldn’t that disenfranchise the voters of that State?
Sure would. They’re too stupid to see it.
Why hold state elections and then ignore them based on what the urban coasts vote for?
>>What is wrong with these idiots?
They are Progressives. They believe that humanity and everything else is a cosmic mistake caused by randomness creating order. They believe that you can create a “Better Human” through laws and selective handouts. They believe that people will be productive when there is no reason to produce.
The list of what is wrong with these idiots is quite long.
Maryland had a referendum question on this... I think it passed. It isn’t in effect until more states agree. But if it were in effect 2020, I will enjoy President Trump’s overwhelming popular vote victory.. and Maryland’s demo-rat electors have to cast their votes for him!
I don’t see how this is unconstitutional. We are guaranteed a republican form of government. The voters of other states do not represent your state.
So CA and NY will decide the Presidency for the nation. Right, I’m sure other states will be fine with that.
The mostly Democratic lawmakers in several capitols might better spend their time to ensure that legal voters do not have their votes stolen by the dead, by illegal voters, mysterious ballots showing up, and other voter fraud that disenfranchises responsible citizens of their votes.
Given that voting is both a privilege and a responsibility, voters should understand the system and the issues of citizenship in the community, the country, and the world.
That would be too much to ask of agents of Satan who call themselves Democrats.
That’s the ticket. Blue dtsted need to split electors based on popular vote.
Fine - you can insult our constitution all you want .
What you will get in return in Civil War .
And trust me Marxists, it will not end well
An important paragraph from the Wikipedia treatment of Article IV:
The Federalist Papers also give us some insight as to the intent of the Founders. A republican form of government is distinguished from a direct democracy, which the Founding Fathers had no intentions of entering. As James Madison wrote in Federalist No. 10, "Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths." [emphasis added]The idea that the people of Los Angeles County and the 5 Bouroughs would make the choice for the people of any small state is absurd. I wonder if they would react with shock and awe when no candidate appeared in their state during primary season. Certainly they would be skipped after the primary.
Also, if states enter into an agreement to direct their Electors to cast their vote based on a national result, Article 1, Section 10, Clause 3, the Compact Clause should come into play.
To "introduce" legislation is one thing. "Passing" it is another, and "getting legislation signed into law by the governor and upheld by state courts" is another thing entirely.
New Mexico has a Republican governor, Pennsylvania has a Republican Assembly and Senate, and Ohio has a Republican Assembly, Senate and Governor. None of whom are likely to want to cede control of the entire country to California. IMO, this isn't going anywhere in my lifetime.
More Lib BS. Won't happen. They are amusing themselves by abusing themselves...and if they continue, it will begin to weaken their eyesight. MORONS!!
Political suicide pact. As a denizen of flyover country, the absolute last thing I want is some metrosexual from SanFran, NYC or Chicago telling me how to live and work in my home, 1800 miles away.
If the denizens of CA are dedicated to their own destruction, my libertarian side says let’em do it. But, they shouldn’t imagine for 5 seconds that they have the right to destroy the rest of us.
The root of BO’s failure (and progressives in general) is that he didn’t believe he had to convince people he was right. Because he and the progressives are so smart. Just exec order and be done with it. Which is fine, if you want your legacy erased by the next guy with an exec order pen.
Is there a pool on how long it is going to take DJT to reverse BO’s irreversible EO regarding offshore drilling?
If progressives (communists) would only read the Constitution they would know this is a bad idea like running Hillary for the presidency.
The libs don’t want international borders. Nor do they want state borders. They’re trying to find a way to lord over all of us deplorables.
>>If progressives (communists) would only read the Constitution they would know this is a bad idea like running Hillary for the presidency.
They are communists. They do not see bad or good. They see obstacles and opportunities.
I think you meant you don't see how this is constitutional.
