President-elect Donald Trump honored the first American to orbit the Earth on Thursday, a little more than an hour after Glenns death was announced.
The former Ohio senator died Thursday at age 95 after a prolonged illness.
In his remarks, sent out via his Twitter feed, Trump hailed Glenn as an inspiration to generations of explorers.
Today we lost a great pioneer of air and space in John Glenn, Trump wrote...

Rest in Peace John Glenn. You lived a wonderful life.
My sister (a gifted sketch artist) once told me that she thought John Glenn had a perfect shaped head.
RIP.
Great Marine and astronaut. Crappy senator.
John Glenn,
American Hero,
Political zero.
over 120 combat missions during WW2 and Korea..
His plane was shot up on a regular basis.
A quote from Glenn.
“”I was the one who went in low and got them,” Glenn said, explaining that he often landed with huge holes in the side of his aircraft because he didn’t like to shoot from high altitudes.”

I remember meeting John Glenn when I was in high school. My kids used to comment about the photo of Glenn and me sitting in my home office - “who’s that man?” And I would go into stories about a true American Hero.
God speed, Col. Glenn.
Glenn was the greatest. I was 10 or 11 when I met him on the Fort Monroe fishing pier. For that entire summer, I would accompany my dad and Colonel Glenn and 2 of Glenn’s test pilot friends every weekend as they rented a boat each week to go out into Hampton Roads fishing.
You gave me wonderful memories Colonel.
Bless you.
He’s a hell of a lot better than most of these nuttier than squirrel poop democrats in the Senate now.
The black agitators in the '60s and early '70s made exactly that argument. The execrable Ralph Abernathy was notorious for it.
That’s right.
Please. Lets not speak ill of the dead. Lets remember John as a true American hero of the space age and how he fought for America as a marine.
Who is speaking ill of John Glenn?
I hope Trump supports SpaceX, and SLS, and landing men on Moon again in the 2020’s and Mars in the 2030’s
Who would you rather have...
Him?
Or Lie-A-Watha Warren?
