This must be a decoy.

Mattis was retired in 2013 and therefore is not eligible for SecDef before 2020.

“A person may not be appointed as Secretary of Defense within seven years after relief from active duty[...]”

10 U.S. Code § 113 - Secretary of Defense

Can be waves by Congress.

I don’t know if it’s a decoy. Trump spoke repeatedly about Patton and MacArthur and Mattis seems to be of that mold.

This is an easy fix. Congressional staff looking at waiver.

I think he is the best man for the complicated and tedious task of cleaning out DoD. He has real brass, brains and love for the troops and for America.

Somewhere, I read that they were going to try and get a waiver from Congress.

Don’t know if that’s true or not, or whether it’s feasible or not. But they wouldn’t be putting him forward without thinking that it is.
