A recent Oregon law that automatically registers residents to vote when they get or renew a drivers license has fueled a surge in newly minted voters.
In January, Oregon was the first state to put such a law into effect and since then, California, Vermont and West Virginia have adopted similar laws. So-called motor voter laws are also being considered in other states.
Nearly 300,000 Oregonians have registered to vote in the past 12 months and more than 75 percent of them those did so under the motor voter law, the Oregon Secretary of States office said Tuesday. In addition, the state is on track to register 250,000 new voters under the law by the November election.

Does OR give DL’s to illegals?
Does it automatically choose party designation also?
Agree. I don’t see them checking citizenship for a driver’s license.
Yes, and then it 'votes' for you.
Yes, this important. Pennsylvania has prompted for you to register to vote when you get your license or renew for years, but you have to choose your party.
What the article faills to mention is that more Republicans are registering than Democrats. I read that in an article from a month ago.
I ‘m looking forward to seeing if this increases turnout among ‘disaffected voters’- like those Trump is appealing to.
Also, since voter lists are public records, I wonder how it will affect telemarketing and other ad schemes.
I’m sure all voters got a “your car’s warranty is about to expire” ad LOL!
Texas, you check a box on the driver’s license application form, and they’ll mail you a registration card.
True... this thing could be beating the bushes for Trump support!
They don’t in CA and no one else is going to check either.
They failed to take into account that Republicans still like to drive while dems carpool and bicycle...so not as many drivers licenses registered...whoops... they only need a few thousand names per district though.
In Oregone? Have you ever been there? I think there are maybe six or seven Republicans there, and they’re prepping to move.
Se habla?
That would matter in the primaries if they don’t allow cross voting, but in the general you can vote for any party. Maybe illegals and low info don’t know that.
Are you saying that if someone registers as a democrat the system votes for them? Are you being sarcastic?
Maybe not QUITE... just that if local Rat committees want someone to steal the vote of, they have found a more plausible target if they choose someone who registered Rat rather than Heffalump.
